Wilma Faye Simpson, 96, of Whiting, Iowa passed away Thursday, September 29, 2022 at Pleasant View Care Center, Whiting, Iowa.
A funeral service will be 11:00 A.M. Friday, October 7, 2022 at the Goslar Funeral Home Chapel, Onawa, Iowa with Darren C. E. Goslar officiating. A live stream will be posted on Goslar Funeral Home website with Wilma’s obituary. A visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the Goslar Funeral Home Chapel. Private family burial will be held at the Whiting City Cemetery, Whiting, Iowa. Arrangements are under the direction of Goslar Funeral Home and Monuments, Onawa, Iowa.
Wilma Faye was born July 17, 1926 in Moorhead, Iowa, the daughter of Charles and Huldah (Mortenson) Surber. She grew up on a farm near Moorhead, Iowa and graduated from Moorhead High School. Wilma continued her education at Dana College in Blair, Nebraska, where she went to school to become a teacher.
Wilma and LaVerne were united in marriage on December 18, 1949 in Moorhead, Iowa. The couple lived and farmed near Whiting, Iowa their entire life, where they raised their two sons, Steven and Bradley. Wilma and LaVerne enjoyed dancing together as a couple. LaVerne passed on October 31, 2013.
Wilma taught in the elementary at Walthill, Nebraska for several years. She also was a homemaker and ran the farm for many years. Wilma was a Sunday school teacher at the Faith Lutheran Church in Onawa, Iowa. She was a Cub Scout leader and D.A.R. member. She attended the First Congregational Church, U.C.C. of Whiting, Iowa.
Wilma enjoyed crafts, craft fairs, music, playing cards, vacations, and Lawrence Welk. Most of all she enjoyed being with family and good friends.
Survivors include her children, Bradley (Rhonda) Simpson of Whiting, Iowa; Steven (Brenda) Simpson of Whiting, Iowa; grandchildren, Lisa Marie (Nathan) Heffran of La Habra, California, Jeff Simpson of Onawa, Iowa, Colby Simpson of Whiting, Iowa, Abby (Kyle) Lilly of Firestone, Colorado, and Tony (Leslie) Kriege of Marion, Iowa; many great-grandchildren; a sister, Darlene (Kevin) White of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her husband, LaVerne Simpson; parents, Charles and Huldah (Mortenson) Surber; and a brother, Merritt (Ellen) Surber.
