Thomas "Tom" Copple Obituary

Thomas “Tom” Marvin Copple, 70, of Sloan, Iowa, passed away suddenly Monday, November 6, 2023, at Unity Point Health- St. Luke’s Hospital in Sioux City, Iowa.

A public visitation will be held 10:00 – 12:00 P.M. (Noon) Monday, November 13, 2023, at the Goslar Funeral Home Chapel, Onawa, Iowa. A private family memorial service will be held after the visitation, with Darren C. E. Goslar, officiating. Burial will be in the St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery, Salix, Iowa. Arrangements are under the direction of Goslar Funeral Home and Monuments, Onawa, Iowa.

Thomas Marvin was born December 19, 1952, in Onawa, Iowa, the son of Gordon and Geraldine (Baker) Copple. Tom attended Westwood Community School and graduated with the class of 1971.

Tom married the love of his life Peg on July 28, 1972, in Salix, Iowa. To this union they had three children, Rob, Kim, and Jill.

Tom worked for AGP for ten years, MCI/Verizon for almost thirty years, and Book Bros, Property in Sioux City, Iowa, until retirement.

He enjoyed golfing, boating, and coffee with the guys at the shop. Tom was the family handyman. He was known for being everyone’s dad/grandpa and for his famous Jalapeno hot wings. Family was important to Tom; he never missed an event of his grandkids and was their number one fan.

Tom was a previous member of the Sloan Fire Department for over twenty-five years. He gave the gift of life through organ and tissue donation with the Iowa Donor Network.

Survivors include his wife of fifty-one years, Peg Copple of Sloan, Iowa; children, Rob (Karla) Copple of Sloan, Iowa, Kim Tope of Sioux City, Iowa, and Jill (Beau) Freese of Sloan, Iowa; grandchildren, Jordan, Ashley, Lucas, Lexy, Carter, Casyn, Connor, and Dominic; siblings, Terri (Mac) McDonald, and Mike (Jean) Copple; sisters-in-law, Mary Ellen (Greg) Olson and Marcia (Jerry) Sailer; brothers-in-law, Mike (Linda) Friis and Dan (Deb) Friis; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Gordon and Gerri Copple; brother, Allen Copple; parents-in-law, Bob (Gert) Friis; and special “brother”, Steve Salisbury.
