Thelma J. Hansen, 97, of Onawa, Iowa passed away Sunday, June 28, 2026 at Maple Heights Nursing Home, Mapleton, Iowa, in the presence of loved ones.
A memorial service will be 11:00 A.M. Friday, July 31, 2026 at the Goslar Funeral Home Chapel, Onawa, Iowa with Hospice Chaplain, Dale Wolf, officiating. A live stream of the service will be posted on the Goslar Funeral Home website with Thelma’s obituary. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service on Friday, July 31, 2026 at the Goslar chapel. Following the memorial service, a luncheon will be held at the Onawa Public Library upstairs meeting room with elevator access. A private family burial will be held in the Ingemann Cemetery, rural Moorhead, Iowa. Arrangements are under the direction of Goslar Funeral Home and Monuments, Onawa, Iowa.
Thelma Joan Wickersham was born on May 7, 1929 in Bloomington, Nebraska, to Ralph and Harriet (Harger) Wickersham. The family moved to the Turin, Iowa area where Thelma attended Arcola Rural School and then graduated from Castana High School in 1947.
Thelma married Harvey Hansen on February 26, 1948 in Onawa, Iowa. The couple made their home near Turin where Thelma raised their children on the farm with Harvey. Harvey passed away December 28, 2010.
Thelma worked at Brown Drug and Great Plains Lumber Company. She also spent several years at Monona Services, where she taught life skills such as cooking and cleaning to clients with disabilities. A dedicated and hardworking person, Thelma also clerked at Martindale Auctions on weekends. In her free time, she enjoyed watercolor painting, decorating, and reading. She was a faithful member of the Turin United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her three children, Kathleen (Paul) Fellenz of Neenah, Wisconsin, Gary (Barbara) Hansen of Suffolk, Virginia, and Douglas (Dan Warren) Hansen of Des Moines, Iowa; five grandchildren, Molly Fellenz, Erin Brockmeyer, Seth Fellenz, Lisa Bearer, and Jeff Hansen; ten great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; brother, Marvin (Dorothy) Wickersham of Essex, Iowa; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey Hansen; parents, Ralph and Harriet (Harger) Wickersham; an infant son, David Hansen; twin sister and best friend, Velma Perkins; sister, Ruth Crosgrove; her brother and good friend from childhood until his death, Ralph Wickersham, Jr; and sister-in-law, Donna Wickersham.
