Thelma Muller Obituary

Thelma L. Muller, 95, of Hornick, Iowa passed away Sunday, October 8, 2023 at Burgess Health Center, Onawa, Iowa surrounded by her family.

Private Family Services will be held at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Goslar Funeral Home and Monuments, Onawa, Iowa.

Thelma Lorraine was born December 9, 1927, on a farm in rural Creighton, Nebraska, the daughter of Elmer and Ella (Guhlke) Johnson. Thelma graduated from Creighton, Nebraska High School with the class of 1946.

Thelma and Leonard were united in marriage on February 28, 1947, at Fremont, Nebraska. The couple lived and farmed in Nebraska until moving to their farm near Hornick, Iowa in 1954. Thelma loved living on the farm and taking care of her family. She was actively involved with the farm operation throughout her life. Leonard passed away on October 14, 2009.

She enjoyed reading, traveling, sewing, and dancing. Thelma was an excellent seamstress and was proud to make her daughter’s wedding dress. Thelma enjoyed visiting with anyone she met. She was very social and attended many local community events. She loved her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren very much and would attend their activities and was always willing to help anyway she could. Thelma loved her pets, loved decorating for holidays and all seasons, loved flowers and watching the birds, and enjoyed so many aspects of life watching out her big picture window. She liked mowing and was still riding her lawn mower at age 90. During harvest season, Thelma made sure no one went hungry by delivering meals to the harvest crew.

Thelma was a member and past president of the American Legion Auxiliary for several years.

Survivors include her children, Sheryn (Tom) Green of Hornick, Iowa, and Michael Muller of Hornick, Iowa; special friend, Lynn Muller of Hornick, Iowa; three grandchildren, Shelly (Doug) Green Hilbert of Cedar Springs, Michigan, Tom Green, Jr. of Chula Vista, California, and Matt Muller of Le Mars, Iowa; three great-grandchildren, Thomas Hilbert, Harrison Hilbert, and Max Muller; nieces and nephews; and many other relatives and friends.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Muller; parents, Elmer and Ella (Guhlke) Johnson; sister, Evelyn Hays; and brother, Leonard Dale Johnson.

Memorials may be given in Thelma’s memory to Burgess Home Health/Hospice, 1600 Diamond Street, Onawa, Iowa, 51040.
