Shirley Mae Matkosky, 90, of Onawa, Iowa, passed away unexpectedly, Wednesday, October 16, 2024, at her residence.
A celebration of life service will be 10:30 A.M. Monday, October 21, 2024, at the Goslar Funeral Home Chapel, Onawa, Iowa, with Pastor Catie Newman, officiating. A livestream of the service will be posted on the Goslar Funeral Home website with Shirley’s obituary. Arrangements are under the direction of Goslar Funeral Home and Monuments, Onawa, Iowa.
Shirley Mae was born March 28, 1934, in Onawa, Iowa, the daughter of William and Ethel (Karr) Strong. She grew up in Onawa and graduated from Onawa High School.
Shirley was a housewife, and she worked in Civil Service at the Corp of Engineers as a secretary and Disaster Relief Coordinator in Omaha, Nebraska, from 1971 until her retirement in the1990’s.
She enjoyed flowers, eating food, and playing bingo at the casino.
Survivors include her children, Michael (Kathryn) Matkosky, and Gary (Jodi) Matkosky; grandchildren, Heather (Andy) Autenrieth, Sean Matkosky, Connor Matkosky, Nathaniel Matkosky, Joshua (Michelle) Matkosky, Matthew (Amanda) Matkosky, Samuel (Melissa) Matkosky, Zachary Matkosky, Caleb Matkosky, Victoria (Chad) Cronhardt, Elizabeth Matkosky, Rebekka (Dan) Ciresi, Joseph Matkosky, and Seth Matkosky; great-grandchildren, William Butkus, Marshall Butkus, Kalium Matkosky, Weston Matkosky, Genevieve Matkosky, Colton Matkosky, and Lillianna Matkosky; brother, Raymond Strong; and other relatives, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Ethel (Karr) Strong; daughter, Carol Anne Matkosky; siblings, Margaret Watts, Beverly Murphy, Richard Strong, Wilma Bothwell, and Charlotte Strong; and great-grandchild, Nevaeh Matkosky.
