Ruth "Virginia" Larson

Ruth “Virginia” Larson, 106, of Whiting, Iowa passed away, two days shy of her 107th birthday, Tuesday, August 26, 2025 at Pleasant View Care Center, Whiting, Iowa.

A funeral service will be held at 2:30 P.M. Sunday, August 31, 2025 at Community Church of Christ, Sloan, Iowa with Dr. Emery Killian and Pastor Kody Killian, officiating. A live stream of the service will be posted on the Goslar Funeral Home website with Virginia’s obituary. Burial will follow at the Fairview Township Cemetery, Albaton, Iowa. A visitation will be 1:30 P.M. - 2:30 P.M. Sunday, August 31, 2025 at the Community Church of Christ in Sloan. Arrangements are under the direction of Goslar Funeral Home and Monuments, Onawa, Iowa.

Ruth Virginia was born August 28, 1918 in Hornick, Iowa, the daughter of Peter and Bertha (Abel) Rysdam. She graduated from Sloan High School with the class of 1935.

Virginia and Merle Larson were united into marriage May 1, 1940 in Sioux City, Iowa. Virginia loved her role as a devoted farm wife and found great joy in raising her two children, Lois and Frederick “Rick”.

Virginia cherished time spent with her family and especially enjoyed playing cards, cooking, and baking. She was well-known for her delicious fried chicken and her famous apple pie. Virginia was also a devoted member of the Community Church of Christ in Sloan.

Survivors include her children, Lois Hoover of Rockledge, Florida and Rick (Carol) Larson of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Darren (Karen) Larson and Angela (Wyatt) Poindexter; great-grandchildren, Luke Larson, Olivia Larson, Cameron Poindexter, and Katie Poindexter; and many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Peter and Bertha (Abel) Rysdam; husband, Merle Larson; son-in-law, James R. Hoover; and brothers and sisters, Harold Rysdam, Cecile Gay, Opal Pauk, Max Rysdam, Paul Rysdam, and Dale Rysdam.
