Roger Dean Clayton, 72, of Waterloo, Iowa, formerly of Turin, Iowa, passed away Monday, January 1, 2024, at Pillar of Cedar Valley, Waterloo, Iowa.

Per Roger’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Private family services will be held at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Goslar Funeral Home and Monuments, Onawa, Iowa.

Roger Dean was born April 8, 1951, in Chicago, Illinois, the son of Dwight and Elsie (Garrison) Clayton. He grew up around Turin, Iowa. He attended school in Gretna, Nebraska, Waterloo, Nebraska, and then graduated with the class of 1970 from East Monona High School in Moorhead, Iowa.

Roger enjoyed building model cars and airplanes. He took karate lessons when he was younger. Roger loved spending time with his family, especially his nieces and nephews. Roger enjoyed music and singing.

Survivors include his mother, Elsie Wagner of Turin, Iowa; siblings, Roy Clayton of Texas, Ralph Clayton of Cherokee, Iowa, Kevin (Karen) Clayton of Turin, Iowa, and Chrystal (Jim) Wirth of Lincoln, Nebraska; step-siblings, Ed (Beth) Wagner of Onawa, Iowa, Scott (Lisa) Wagner of Yankton, South Dakota, Janice (Dwayne) Hamilton of Dakota City, Nebraska, Janiece (Duane) Wallis of Fremont, Nebraska, Alice (Rod) Cutler of Butler, Nebraska, and Marion Wagner of Onawa, Iowa; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Dwight Clayton; stepfather, James Edward Wagner; infant sister, Risè Denise Clayton; sister, Ramona Diane Burgess; brothers, Ronald Dale Clayton, and David Louis Clayton; and many aunts, uncles, other relatives, and friends.
