Robert "Bob" Jones, Jr.

Robert “Bob” C. Jones Jr., 73, of Sloan, Iowa, passed away Thursday, December 22, 2022 at Pleasant View Nursing Home, Whiting, Iowa.

A Memorial Service will be held 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, December 27, 2022, at the Community Church of Christ, Sloan, Iowa, with Dr. Emery Killian and Pastor Kody Killian, officiating. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. A live stream of the service will be posted on the Goslar Funeral Home Website with Bob’s obituary. As per Bob’s request the body will be cremated with no burial at this time. Arrangements are under the direction of Goslar Funeral Home and Monuments, Onawa, Iowa.

Bob was born during a blizzard on April 15, 1949 in Grinnell, Iowa, the son of Anna “Betty” Jones and Robert C. Jones Sr. of Gilman, Iowa. He graduated from SEMCO high school 1967.

Bob and Penny Peterson were united in marriage on August 14, 1971, after meeting at college.

He spent the first ten years teaching in a elementary school in Omaha, Nebraska and Le Mars, Iowa. After, obtaining his masters degree he spent the next five years in Oakland, Nebraska, and 18 years as an elementary principal at Westwood in Sloan, Iowa.

Bob’s hobbies included racing pigeons and traveling the United States each summer with his family. His favorite places were The Rocky Mountains at Estes Park, Colorado and South Padre Island in Texas.

He loved the Iowa Hawkeyes. He would also watch for deer and bald eagles, when we drove the countryside, but most of all he loved spending time with his two children, his wife, and six grandchildren.

He was a 30-year member of the Community Church of Christ. He loved his church family and God.

He is survived by his loving wife, Penny of 51 years; children, Darrin (Sheriffa) Jones of Spencer, Iowa, and Amy (Dan Tope) Lidgett of Sioux City, Iowa; grandchildren, Julia Lidgett, Alaina Lidgett, Olivia Jones, Gavin Jones, Dalyn Tope, and Casyn Tope; sister, Rosemary (Calvin) Lyle of Haverhill, Iowa; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Vickie (Clark) Rainboth of Marcus, Iowa, and many nieces, nephews, other family members, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Anna “Betty” and Robert Jones, Sr.; father-in-law and mother in-law, Carlyle and Verdetta (Houchins) Peterson; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Ron (Julie) Johansen.
