Peter "Pete" Mortensen Obituary

Peter “Pete” Carl Mortensen, 93, of Onawa, Iowa passed away Wednesday, February 16, 2022 at Burgess Health Center, Onawa, Iowa.

A funeral mass will be 10:30 A.M. Wednesday, February 23, 2022 at St. John Catholic Church, Onawa, Iowa with Father Michael Erpelding, Celebrant, officiating. A live stream of the service will be posted on the Goslar Funeral Home website with Pete’s obituary. Burial will follow in the Belvidere Cemetery, rural Turin, Iowa with Military Honors provided by the United States Army and the David McNeill American Legion Post #129, Onawa, Iowa. A visitation will be 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. Tuesday, February 22, 2022 with a Rosary at 7:00 P.M. at the Goslar Funeral Home Chapel, Onawa, Iowa. Arrangements are under the direction of Goslar Funeral Home and Monuments, Onawa, Iowa.

Pete was born in Woods Hollow south of Turin, Iowa, to Jens Carl and Anna Laurie (Wagner) Mortensen on October 17, 1928. His childhood years were spent in Sioux Township where he attended Mann School and Blencoe School, graduating from Onawa High School in 1946. After graduating he entered into the United States Army.

Finishing his tour of duty he moved to Omaha, Nebraska and retired from Northwestern Bell Telephone Company after thirty-four years. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and past Grand Knight. Pete was a member of the Stevens-Kelly American Legion Post #665 of Blencoe, Iowa.

Pete married Rosanne Kaiser at the St. Cecilia Cathedral in Omaha on July 13, 1948. To this union eight children were born. Rosanne passed away on November 26, 1992.  

Pete married Frances “Fran” Bramow at St. John Catholic Church in Onawa on December 2, 1994. Fran brought to this union two children. Throughout their marriage they lived in Onawa.

He is survived by his wife, Fran of Onawa, Iowa; his six children, Pete Mortensen of Mesa, Arizona, Tim (Mary) of Omaha, Nebraska, Robert (Donna) of Fremont, Nebraska, Regina Mortensen of Onawa, Iowa, Mary (Mitch) Ulrich of Omaha, Nebraska, and Grace (Gary) Addy of Onawa, Iowa; step-sons, Dennis (Stacie) Bramow of Justin, Texas, and Dave (Tonya) of Wytheville, Virginia; thirteen grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; thirty great-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Rosanne Mortensen; son, Gregory Mortensen; daughter, Janet Mortensen; parents, Jens and Anna (Wagner) Mortensen; two sisters, Louise Wagner, and Ida Springer; and a daughter-in-law, Barbara Mortensen.
