Orvil "Dean" Davis

Orvil “Dean” Davis, 88, of Hornick, Iowa passed away Saturday, January 3, 2026, at Pleasant View Care Center, Whiting, Iowa.

 A visitation will be 10:00 A.M. - 10:30 A.M. Saturday, January 10, 2026 with a celebration of life service at 10:30 A.M., at the Goslar Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Ryan Austin, officiating.  Military Honors provided by the United States Air Force and David McNeill American Legion Post #129 of Onawa, Iowa. A live stream of the service will be posted online with Dean’s obituary. A memorial graveside service will be 3:00 P.M. Sunday, January 11, 2026, at Pleasantville Cemetery, Pleasantville, Iowa. Following the memorial graveside service there will be a gathering at the Checkerboard Restaurant, 108 E Monroe Street, Pleasantville, Iowa, 50225. Arrangements are under the direction of Goslar Funeral Home and Monuments, Onawa, Iowa.

Orvil Dean Davis was born September 5, 1937, in Pleasantville Iowa, the only child of Ervin and Veda Emma (McCoy) Davis.

Dean grew up in Marion and Warren County, Iowa, and graduated in 1955 from Dallas Consolidated High School. Dean proudly served in the United States Air Force from January 6, 1956, until his honorable discharge on January 5, 1960. He was stationed in California and Okinawa. Dean later returned to Iowa and worked on various farms. He worked for his two stepsons Randy and Ronnie Hunt from 1984, until his retirement.

On November 1, 1974, he married Shirley Kay Wilson. They moved to Hornick, Iowa, in May of 2000, where Dean continued to work for Randy and Ronnie Hunt.

Dean enjoyed his family and cherished working on the Hunt Farms.

Those left to honor his memory include his stepchildren, Randy (Beck) Hunt of Hornick, Iowa, Ronnie (Barb) Hunt of Sergeant Bluff, Iowa, and Michelle (Chris) Hart of Danbury, Iowa; brother-in-law, Jerry Horstman of Pleasantville, Iowa; 10 step-grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and many other relatives, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Davis; parents, Ervin and Veda Davis; son, Dean Jay Davis; sister-in-law, Lorna Horstmann; stepdaughter, Bobbi (Wright) Calhoun; and step-grandson Ryan Calhoun.

Memorials in Dean’s memory may be directed to the family for future designation.
