Norman Leroy Wallis was born on January 15, 1956 in Onawa, Iowa, the son of Gerald and Maxine (Guttau) Wallis. He attended West Harrison Community Schools and graduated with the class of 1974. From a young age, Norman developed a deep love for farming--driving a tractor by the age of four and operating a combine by the age of seven. Farming wasn’t just his occupation; it was his lifelong passion and the work he devoted himself to throughout his entire life.
Norman found great satisfaction in refurbishing Minneapolis Moline tractors, taking pride in bringing each one back to life with careful attention and skill. Outside of the workshop, Norman took part in several Iowa tractor rides, gladly sharing his passion with other enthusiasts, and he truly treasured every one of those experiences.
Norman dedicated many years of service to the Mondamin Fire and Rescue Department, including eleven years as Fire Chief, where he led with commitment and integrity. In addition to his work there, he was actively involved with the Morgan Township Trustees, the Harrison County Fire and Rescue, and the West Soldier Valley 4-H, serving both as a member and a leader.
Survivors include his three sisters, Marjorie (Barry) Erickson of Castana, Iowa, Margaret (Kelly) Keele of Alma, Arkansas, and Glenda (Dale) Kirby of Cimarron, Kansas; nieces and nephews, Ericka Erickson of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Aaron (Erin) Erickson of Onawa, Iowa, Dani (Wes) Leemon of Hoopeston, Illinois, Dustin (Rose) Kirby of Hoxie, Kansas; great-nieces and great-nephew, Elsie and Tucker Erickson, and Alice Kirby; and many cousins, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Gerald and Maxine (Guttau) Wallis.
