Nancy Jean Tyson, 87, of Onawa, Iowa, passed away unexpectedly Friday, May 12, 2023, at her residence, Onawa, Iowa.
Per Nancy’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Goslar Funeral Home and Monuments, Onawa, Iowa.
Nancy Jean was born June 10, 1935, in rural Onawa, Iowa, the daughter of Virgil Lee and Marcella Jane (Weidt) Smith. She graduated from Onawa High School.
Nancy and James Andrew were united into marriage on April 5, 1956, in Elk Point, South Dakota. To this union three children were born, Terry, Debbie, and Lisa. The couple lived together, while James was stationed in Germany.
She worked at Burgess Memorial Hospital in Onawa, Iowa, in the nursing and O.B. department. She was also a unit secretary for several years at Burgess. Nancy enjoyed knitting, bead work, cooking, and camping. She loved spending time with her family.
Nancy was a member of the First Christian Church, Onawa, Iowa.
Survivors include, her children, Terry Tyson of Onawa, Iowa, Debbie (Brett) Spaulding of Onawa, Iowa, and Lisa (Dean) Funkhouser of Onawa, Iowa; grandchildren, Jessica (Mike) Johnson of Wills Point, Texas, Austin Spaulding of Whiting, Iowa, James (Amanda) Funkhouser of Ute, Iowa, and Jonathan (Skye) Funkhouser of Sioux City, Iowa; great-grandchildren, Gabby, Caeden, Eva and Isreal Johnson of Wills Point, Texas, Chevelle and Kodiak Spaulding of Whiting, Iowa, Taryn, Avery, Brenna, Harper, and Kelee Funkhouser of Ute, Iowa, and Scarlet and Myla Funkhouser of Sioux City, Iowa; brother, David (Louise) Smith of Onawa, Iowa; two sisters-in-law, Jeanette Smith of Castana, Iowa, and Jeanne Polly of Whiting, Iowa; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
She was preceded by her husband, James Tyson; brother, Howard Smith; parents, Virgil and Marcella (Weidt) Smith; and parents-in-law, John and Vera (Hittle) Tyson.
