Nancy was born to Adolf and Elizabeth (Cutter) Rohde on January 20, 1932 in Mapleton, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Matthew Lutheran Church and later in life into the Open Bible Church. She was raised and attended school in Mapleton, along with her sisters, Carolyn and Gloria. Nancy graduated from Mapleton High School in 1949.
Nancy married John (her “Jackie” – the love of her life) on November 18, 1949 and moved to Smithland. Born to their union were Roger, Jackie Jolene, Susan, and John. They spent their years together here raising pigs and operating a steel scrap yard. They also spent many years traveling the roads of Iowa and surrounding states where Jack worked road construction. Nancy followed along, always supporting her husband until his death in 2019.
Nancy then moved to Ida Grove to be with family. In addition to being a dedicated and loving mother and grandmother, Nancy also loved sewing, gardening, baking, and crafting, especially crocheting. She gifted her grandchildren with dozens of homemade treasures, including toys, clothes, and quilts.
Throughout her entire life, she held an unwavering faith in God, which she shared with those who surrounded her. Her favorite bible verse was Philippians 4:13 where the Apostle Paul states, “I can do all things though Christ who strengthens me,” which she carried in her heart daily.
She is survived by her four children, Roger (Barbara) Bainbridge of Mapleton, Iowa, Jackie Jolene (Ron) Ernst of Ida Grove, Iowa, Susan Anderson of Whiting, Iowa, and John (Michele) Bainbridge of Smithland, Iowa; 12 grandchildren, Stacey (Scott) Mead, Jeremy (Jill) Bainbridge, Michelle (Tony Bloyer) Bainbridge, Jessica (Vince Ordt) Bainbridge, Cammie (Jason Harm) Georgius, Ryan (Jenny) Ernst, Daniel (Christi Cole) Anderson, Misty Anderson, Carrie (Toby) Davidson, Joseph (Leeandra) Anderson, Jenifer (Brian) Matthews, and Christopher (Cathy) Bainbridge; 30 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Roy and Phyllis Struble of Hornick, Iowa; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Nancy joins her husband, John “Jack” Bainbridge; a great-grandson, Luke Matthews, her two sisters, Carolyn (Lewis) Docken and Gloria (Duane) Petersen; and four nephews in heaven.
