Nancy Jean Merritt, 73, of Castana, Iowa, passed away Thursday, May 23, 2024, at Burgess Health Center, Onawa, Iowa.
A memorial service will be 10:00 A.M. Saturday, June 1, 2024, at the Castana Community Church U. C. C., Castana, Iowa, with Pastor Linda Boggs, officiating. A recording of the service will be posted on the Goslar Funeral Home website with Nancy’s obituary. Burial will follow in the Kennebec Cemetery, Castana, Iowa. A visitation will be 5:00 P.M. – 7:00 P.M. Friday, May 31, 2024, with a 7:00 P.M. prayer service at the Castana Community Church U. C. C. Arrangements are under the direction of Goslar Funeral Home and Monuments, Onawa, Iowa.
Nancy Jean was born January 3, 1951, in Castana, Iowa, the daughter of Charles and Rosetta (Block) Merritt. She attended Castana Community Schools. Nancy cooked at several nursing homes around the area for many years. She was self-employed and cleaned many houses over the years.
She enjoyed knitting, sewing, and gardening. Nancy loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She was a member of the Castana Community Church U. C. C. and the Church’s Ladies Aid. Nancy was very active in the American Legion Auxiliary.
Survivors include her children, Justin (Brooke) French of Castana, Iowa, and Jason (Brandi) French of Charter Oak, Iowa; grandchildren, Jenna, Bralynn, Brinkly, Jacob (Abbigail Ronfeldt), Garrett, Jaydyn, Tanner (Kaylie Beam) ; great-grandchild, Westen French; sister, Katherine “Kay” Mauch of Soldier, Iowa; brothers, Charles “Charlie” (Lisa) Merritt of Onawa, Iowa, and Herman “Mike” (Susanne) Block of Wilkeson, Washington; and many other relatives, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Rosetta (Block) Merritt; brother, Richard Merritt; and nephew, Andrew Merritt.
