Michael "Mike" T. Bryan Obituary

Michael “Mike” T. Bryan, 71, of Onawa, Iowa passed away Saturday, October 28, 2023 at MercyOne Siouxland Medical Center, Sioux City, Iowa surrounded by family.

A memorial service will be 11:00 A.M. Friday, November 3, 2023 at the Goslar Funeral Home Chapel, Onawa, Iowa with Jeff Thelander, officiant. The family requests all those attending to wear your favorite sports team attire. A live stream of the service will be posted on the Goslar Funeral Home website with Mike’s obituary. Burial will follow in the Graceland Cemetery, Blencoe, Iowa. Visitation with family present will be one hour prior to the service at the chapel. Arrangements are under the direction of Goslar Funeral Home and Monuments, Onawa, Iowa.

Michael Thomas was born October 8, 1952 in Onawa, Iowa the son of Fred J. and Bertha L. (Powell) Bryan. Mike grew up in Blencoe and graduated from West Monona with the class of 1970. After high school, Mike worked for Stangel Brothers gas station for several years. In his younger years, Mike enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Mike and Cathy West were married December 26, 1971. To this union one daughter was born, Heather. The couple later divorced.

Mike worked at Payless Cashways and Sam’s Club for many years. He enjoyed working in his garden and taking many drives to the river. Mike was an avid sports fan and especially enjoyed watching the Chicago Bears, Iowa Hawkeyes, and enjoyed fast pitch softball. He enjoyed playing cards with the family, especially playing the game “Prunce”.

Mike was affiliated with the Blencoe United Church of Christ in Blencoe, Iowa.

Survivors include his daughter, Heather Bryan of Whiting, Iowa; granddaughter, Shelby Rodman of North Liberty, Iowa; mother, Bertha L. Bryan of Onawa, Iowa; sister, Cindy (Bill) Gantz of Onawa, Iowa; brother, David (Debra) Bryan of Rosalie, Nebraska; nieces, Melissa (Glenn) Koenigs of Onawa, Iowa, BJ (Justin) Richards of Onawa, Iowa, and Kelli Wilson of Omaha, Nebraska; nephew, Pat Bryan of Oakland, Nebraska; cousins, Stefanie (Dale) Hecht and Kent (Jan) Powell; many great nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Fred J. Bryan; paternal grandparents, Fred and Fern (McLaughlin) Bryan; maternal grandparents, George and Leona (Bothwell) Powell; and uncle and aunt, Johnnie and Mabel Powell.
