Michael A. Bartels

Michael A. Bartels, 71, of Onawa, Iowa, passed away Saturday, October 12, 2024, at the Women’s Methodist Hospital, Omaha, Nebraska.

A funeral service will be 10:30 A.M. Saturday, October 19, 2024, at the Goslar Funeral Home Chapel, Onawa, Iowa, with Pastor Catie Newman, officiating.  A visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the Goslar Funeral Home chapel. A livestream of the service will be posted on the Goslar Funeral Home website with Michael’s obituary. Burial will follow the service in the Mount Hope Cemetery, Battle Creek, Iowa. Arrangements are under the direction of Goslar Funeral Home and Monuments, Onawa, Iowa.

Michael was born February 19, 1953, in Ida Grove, Iowa, the son of Warren “Bart” and Mary (Boger) Bartels. He grew up in Battle Creek and graduated from the Battle Creek High School in 1972. After graduating high school, Michael attended John F. Kennedy College, Wahoo, Nebraska.

Michael worked with his dad at Bart’s Body Shop in Battle Creek, Iowa, for several years. He worked at Sorenson Tire in Onawa, Iowa, for over thirty-two years, and later retired from Schenkelberg Implement, due to health issues.

He enjoyed motorcycles, fishing, watching sports, and was an avid Oakland Raiders fan. Michael enjoyed hanging out with his friends and having a couple of beers.

Survivors include his children, Alexandria (Auriol) Pedro of Papillion, Nebraska and Austin (Zachary) Bartels of Dallas, Texas; grandchildren, Maddy James, Angie Pedro, and Michael Bartels; sister, Mary (Craig) Farrell of Fonda, Iowa; nieces and nephews, Ed Ummach, Todd (Lori Sweeter French) Ummach, Jason (Andrea) Nielsen, Stacia (Troy) Stauter, and Jon ( Lana Means) Nielsen; brother-in-law, Randy Nielsen; and many great nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Warren “Bart” and Mary (Boger) Bartels; sister, Cindy Nielsen; brother, David “Dave” Bartels; niece, Jamie Ummach; paternal grandparents, Walter and Anna (Wonder) Bartels; and maternal grandparents, Ferd and Mary (Nepper) Boger.
