Mary Jane Lord Obituary

Mary Jane Lord, 99, of Sloan, Iowa passed away Saturday, May 6, 2023 at Pleasant View Care Center, Whiting, Iowa.

A memorial service will be 7:00 P.M. Thursday, May 11, 2023 at the Community Church of Christ, Sloan, Iowa with Pastor Richard Moore, officiating. A live stream of the service will be posted on the Goslar Funeral Home website with Mary Jane’s obituary. A memorial visitation will be 5:00 – 7:00 P.M. Thursday, May 11, 2023 at the church. Burial will be held at a later date in the Sloan Cemetery, Sloan, Iowa. Arrangements are under the direction of the Goslar Funeral Home and Monuments, Onawa, Iowa.

Mary Jane was born March 31, 1924 in Sloan, Iowa, the daughter of Stewart and Carrie (Dahl) Stoulp. She grew up in Sloan and graduated from Sloan High School. Mary Jane worked at Western Union School during WWII in New York. She also worked part time for the Sloan Merc. Co. and the Sloan Café.

Mary Jane and John Steven Lord were married November 28, 1946, in Sloan, Iowa. To this union three children were born, Cindy, Don, and Dean.

Mary Jane was a farm wife and helped with farm chores and took many meals to the field during harvest for many years. She enjoyed attending all of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren’s activities through the years. Mary Jane and John enjoyed traveling and visited every state but North Dakota. Their extended travels included Europe, Panama Canal, and Hawaii. She collected many spoons from her travels.

Mary Jane was a member of the Community Church of Christ, Sloan, Iowa. She taught Sunday School for many years. She was a fifty-year member of the Eastern Star and a past Matron for six years. Mary Jane was also a member of the Merry Mom’s and the Red Hat Society for many years. She was a member for over fifty years of the Smith- Rhodes American Legion Auxiliary Unit #295, Sloan, Iowa.

Survivors include her children, Cindy (Tom) Wickiser of Georgetown, Texas, Don (Jean) Lord of Sloan, Iowa, and Dean (LaTona) Lord of Hornick, Iowa; seven grandchildren, Jonathon (Audra) Wickiser, Carrie (Brian) Troska, Scott (Christopher) Lord, Chris (Julie) Lord, Rusty (Elizabeth) Lord, Bailey Lord, and Boone (Makayla) Lord; nine great-grandchildren, Claire and Elizabeth Wickiser, Carter and Mary Troska, Alex, Abby, and Anna Lord, Memphis Lord, and Charlotte Lord; sister-in-law, Kathy Stoulp of Sloan, Iowa; and many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Lord; parents, Stewart and Carrie (Dahl) Stoulp; infant son, John Scott Lord, six brothers, Don, Earl, Stewart Jr., Raymond, Gerald “Jerry”, and infant brother, Robert; and two sisters, Betty and Elaine.

Memorials in Mary Jane’s memory may be directed to Burgess Hospice, Onawa, Iowa.
