Mary Jane Bromander, 91, of Sloan, Iowa passed away Wednesday, February 11, 2026 at Pleasant View Care Center, Whiting, Iowa.
A funeral service will be 11:00 A.M. Friday, February 27, 2026 at the Evangelical Covenant Church in Sloan, Iowa, with Pastor Trent Baker, officiating. A live stream of the service will be posted on the Goslar Funeral Home website with Mary Jane’s obituary. Burial will follow in the Fairview Township Cemetery, Albaton, Iowa. A visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday, February 27, 2026. Arrangements are under the direction of Goslar Funeral Home and Monuments, Onawa, Iowa.
Mary Jane was born November 23, 1934, in Soldier, Iowa, the daughter of Andrew and Zada (Spaulding) Rude. She attended Modale High School and graduated in 1952.
Mary Jane and Duane Bromander were united in marriage on March 11, 1956.
She worked at various places including a drug store in Sioux City, Iowa, a bank in Sioux City, and Sloan State Bank. She had her own upholstery business for thirty-five years called Mary Jane’s Upholstery and Drapery.
Mary Jane enjoyed square dancing, genealogy, crossword puzzles, sudoku, quilting, and sewing. She enjoyed taking her place at the kitchen table “her command post” where she would keep a close eye on the road’s traffic. Mary Jane had great memories with her family, she had the opportunity to take them on a covered wagon ride across Iowa on the Mormon Trail. A highlight of her life was taking a trip to Norway to see where her ancestors lived.
She was a member of the Scandinavian Society, Sioux City, Iowa. Mary Jane was an active member of the Evangelical Covenant Church, Sloan, Iowa.
Survivors include her children, Tonya (Mark) Riddle of Castana, Iowa, Monte (Brenda) Bromander of Sloan, Iowa, Jeff (Cheri) Bromander of Eustis, Nebraska, and Ron (Sabrina Anderson) Bromander of Ponca, Nebraska; grandchildren, Andrew Bromander, Chantel Jones, Curt (Kelly) Riddle, Matthew (Brianna) Riddle, Dannyl Bromander, Conner Bromander; great-grandchildren, Houston, Montana, Dayton, Brayden, Gavin, Claire, Samuel, and Edith; several nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Duane Bromander; parents, Andrew and Zada (Spaulding) Rude; brother, Royce Rude; sister, Margaret Gerdeman; infant brothers and sister; and granddaughter, Shauna Bromander.
