Martin L. McColley was born in Bedford, Iowa on May 14, 1937 to Louie Lesley McColley and Katherine Bernice Remington-McColley. Martin grew up in Mondamin, Iowa and graduated from Mondamin High School with the class of 1955 and joined the navy soon after that.

Martin and Wanda Swanberg were united in marriage on March 20, 1964. They moved to San Diego, California for a few years while Martin was in the navy. They returned to Wanda’s home town of Little Sioux, Iowa in 1968 and continued to live there the rest of their lives. Martin was in the navel reserves through the early 1970’s. Martin and Wanda were blessed with three children, two daughters, Christine and Leslie, and one son, Marty.

Martin loved spending time with his wife Wanda, their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Martin thoroughly enjoyed summers at Woodland camp with family. So many great memories were made. In his younger years he liked walking and going hiking in the hills.

Martin enjoyed volunteering with many committees, especially Little Sioux Homecoming Celebration, and helping with the Little Sioux all school reunion. He was the mayor of Little Sioux several times over the years. Martin was an instructor for heating, air conditioning, and refrigeration at several schools including, Winnebago and Omaha.

Martin was a faithful member of the United Methodist Church in Little Sioux and became a lay speaker which he truly enjoyed.

Martin worked for the Omaha Hilton Hotel for several years. After working in Omaha, he then worked at the Harrison County Courthouse in Logan, Iowa for many years. After retirement from the courthouse, Martin worked a few hours a week at a couple of part time jobs in the area until his health would not allow.

Those left to treasure his memories, his daughters, Christine (Allan) Christiansen of Ute, Iowa, and Leslie (Gregg) Goslar of Mapleton, Iowa; his son, Marty (Michelle) McColley of Little Sioux, Iowa; nine grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Wanda McColley; parents, Louie and Bernice McColley; his sister, Carolyn “Cookie” Cason, and his beloved granddaughter, Amanda Christiansen.
