Martha (Ebel) Dewald, 98, of Streeter, ND died Thursday, July 16, 2026, at Maple Heights Nursing Home in Mapleton, IA.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, July 23, 2026 at Faith Lutheran Church, 316 15th Street, Onawa, IA 51040 with Vicar Russell Stanislav, officiating. A live stream of the service will be posted on the Goslar Funeral Home website with Martha’s obituary. A luncheon will follow the funeral service at the church on Thursday, July 23, 2026. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Goslar Funeral home and Monuments, Onawa, IA.  

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, July 25, 2026 at the Haut Funeral Home Chapel, 1101 5th Avenue NE, Jamestown, ND 58401 with Pastor James Moos, officiating. A luncheon will follow the funeral service at the Haut Chapel on Saturday, July 25, 2026. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the Haut Funeral Home Chapel in Jamestown, ND. Interment will be 2:00 P.M. Saturday, July 25, 2026 at the Streeter City Cemetery in Streeter, ND.

Martha Ebel was born April 7, 1928, in Jamestown, ND, to William and Alvina (Deutscher) Ebel. In 1929 the William Ebel family moved from Jamestown, ND to a farm three miles south of Medina, ND.  She began her education in country school and finished in Medina.  She grew to womanhood in Medina and briefly worked in Jamestown, ND.

Martha and Gottfried Dewald were married February 9, 1951, at Medina, ND. They made their home on a farm three miles north of Streeter where they farmed until 1992 when they retired. She and Gottfried worked side by side. After they retired from farming, Martha loved crocheting many afghans and kitchen towels.

She continued living on the farm after Gottfried’s death in November, 2009, until October, 2015.  At that time, she moved into an apartment in Streeter, ND.  She lived in Streeter until November, 2021, at which time she moved to an apartment in Onawa, IA to be closer to family.  In April, 2024, she moved once again to Maple Heights Nursing Home in Mapleton, IA.

Martha was a member of Hope United Church of Christ in Streeter. She was involved with Sunday School, Women’s Guild and singing in the choir.  She was also a clerk for Streeter Township for a number of years.  She attended Hope United Church of Christ until it closed in 2009.  At that time, she started attending St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Streeter, ND.  Once she moved to Onawa, IA she attended Faith Lutheran Church there.

She is survived by: two sons, Steven (Kathleen) Dewald of Onawa, IA and Mark (Pamela) Dewald of Allen, TX; eight grandchildren, Brent (Nicolle) Dewald, Jason (Patrisha) Dewald, Joshua Dewald, Nicholas (fiancé Nicole Watkins) Melby, Erin (Zachary) Cox, Heather (Jon) Bonnes, Jeremy Dewald, and Dustin (Michael Rice) Dewald; twenty-two great-grandchildren, Jackson Dewald, Joseph Dewald, Jarrett Dewald, Braxton Dewald, Brayden Dewald, Addison Dewald, Raelynn Engel, Barrett Engel, Briella Dewald, Lillian Dewald, Dodge Melby, Kole Faith, Jaxson Melby, Addyson Melby, Dalsten Schafer, Todd Bonnes, Jasper Bonnes, Pennaelopi Bonnes, Julienne Bonnes, Jazmin Bell, Logan Rice and Baxter Rice; two great-great grandsons, Brooks Dewald and Briggs Dewald; one sister, Violet Joachim of Aberdeen, SD; one sister-in-law, Helena Ebel of West St Paul, MN; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Alvina Ebel, her husband, Gottfried Dewald; six brothers, Emil, Walter, Arthur, Harry, Oscar and Edward; and three sisters, Mary, Edna and Arlene.
