Mark F. Choquette Obituary

Mark F. Choquette, 79, of Sloan, Iowa passed away Friday, October 3, 2025 at Burgess Health Center, Onawa, Iowa, surrounded by his family.

Per Mark’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A private family service with Military Honors will be held at a later date. Burial will be held at a later date in the Fairview Township Cemetery, Albaton, Iowa. Arrangements are under the direction of Goslar Funeral Home and Monuments, Onawa, Iowa.

Mark Francis Choquette was born on June 27, 1946, in Sioux City, Iowa, the son of Rene and Eleanor (Copple) Choquette. He graduated from Westwood High School with the Class of 1964. Mark proudly served in the United States Marine Corps from February 16, 1965, until his honorable discharge on February 14, 1969. During his service, he was awarded the Presidential Unit Citation, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and Rifle Sharpshooter Badge—each honoring his bravery, dedication, and exceptional skill. Following his military service in Vietnam, Mark continued his education and earned a training certificate. Mark served two tours in Vietnam to spare his younger brother from having to serve, a sacrifice that spoke volumes about his character and the deep sense of responsibility he carried for those he loved.

Mark and Marlene Swan were united into marriage June 8, 1968 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Salix, Iowa. To this union three children were born, Marty, Chad, and Michelle.

Mark dedicated thirty-eight years of his career to Knox Gelatin in Sioux City, Iowa, before retiring in 2008. Outside of work, he found great joy in bow fishing, predator hunting, collecting and using firearms, riding motorcycles, and exploring the world. His adventurous spirit took him farther than most, with travels spanning across the globe to destinations such as Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, Peru, Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, China, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Guatemala, Chile, Panama, Argentina, Ushuaia, Brazil, Uruguay, Mexico, Hawaii, Alaska, Puerto Rico, St. Thomas, St. Maarten, Aruba, Cancun, the Bahamas, Bonaire, Martinique, Grenada, Belize, and Cozumel. He loved spending time with his family and friends, often taking many side-by-side rides with them.

Mark was a proud lifetime member of the NRA (National Rifle Association), the Siouxland Coon Hunters, and the American Black and Tan Coonhound Association.

Survivors include his loving wife of fifty-seven years, Marlene Choquette of Sloan, Iowa; his children, Marty (Joan) Choquette of Sloan, Iowa, Chad (fiancé, Nichol Rogers) Choquette of Sloan, Iowa and Michelle (Chris) Hartigan of Sloan, Iowa; seven grandchildren, Kaitlin (John) Croghan, Renee (John) Zika, Jeremiah (Carlee Davidson) Adams, Zach Adams, Gavin Hartigan, Charlie Rogers, and Monte Rogers; three great-grandchildren, Vivian Croghan, Miles Croghan, and Vienna Adams; two brothers, Ramon Choquette of Sioux City, Iowa, and David Choquette of Sergeant Bluff, Iowa; sister, Karen (Dave) Hayes of Ashburn, Virginia; brother-in-law, Bill Beacom of Sioux City, Iowa; best friends, Phil (Kim Sullivan) Taylor of Sloan, Iowa; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
