Margaret Bernice Brenner Obituary

Margaret Bernice Brenner, 80, of Whiting, Iowa, passed on November 22, 2024, at her residence, surrounded by her family.

A Celebration of Life Service will be at 1:30 P.M. Wednesday, November 27, 2024, at the Goslar Funeral Home Chapel, Onawa, Iowa, with Darren C. E. Goslar, officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Wednesday, November 27, 2024 at the chapel.  A live stream of the service will be posted on the Goslar Funeral Home website with Margaret’s obituary. Burial will follow in the Little Sioux Township Cemetery, Smithland, Iowa. Margaret and her husband John’s ashes will be laid to rest together, symbolizing their eternal bond. John’s Military Honors will be provided by the United States Army and the Emery Johnson American Legion Post #481 of Whiting, Iowa. Arrangements are under the direction of Goslar Funeral Home and Monuments, Onawa, Iowa.

Margaret was born on August 3, 1944, to Frederick and Sarah (Parsons) Carter in Corner Brook, Newfoundland, Canada. She moved to the United States in 1962 and became a citizen in 1995. Margaret graduated from Amalgamated Regional High School with the class of 1961. She enjoyed selling Avon and was an Avon manager for many years. 

On April 8, 1967, Margaret Carter and John Brenner were married at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Mapleton, Iowa.  To this union, two daughters were born, Lesley and Janine.

She enjoyed baking, decorating cakes, cooking, canning, gardening, collecting, and going to the casino. Margaret loved all her family and especially enjoyed spoiling the grandchildren. 

Margaret was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church in Onawa, Iowa. 

Survivors include her daughters, Lesley (Phil) Hubert of Whiting, Iowa, and Janine (Dewey) Petersen of Dunlap, Iowa; her seven grandchildren, Garrett (Bailey) Hubert of Evergreen, Colorado, Bryce (Tessa) Hubert of Maxwell, Iowa, Dylan Hubert of Ankeny, Iowa, Bradley Petersen of Austin, Texas, Stephanie (Aaron) Kolln of Charter Oak, Iowa, Zack Petersen of Dunlap, Iowa and Jaci Petersen of Dunlap, Iowa; one great-grandchild, Elliotte Kolln; one brother, Reg (Sharon) Carter of Newfoundland; two sisters, Violet (Winston) Gregory of Ontario; and Audrey (Ross) Carberry of Newfoundland; brother-in-law, Ron (Laura) Brenner of Adel, Iowa; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband and love of a lifetime, John; her parents, Fred and Sarah (Parsons) Carter; parents-in-law, Myron and Adele (Friday) Brenner; her sisters, Sandra Taylor and Betty Reeves; brother-in-law, Neil Sutherland; and niece, Susan Carberry.

In lieu of flowers memorials in Margaret’s memory may be directed to the family for future designations.
