Marco A. Duarte, Sr.

Marco A. Duarte, Sr., 83, of Whiting, Iowa, (formerly of Rutherford, New Jersey) passed away Sunday, April 17, 2022 at Pleasant View Care Center, Whiting, Iowa.

Per Marco’s wishes, cremation has been accorded. Services will be held at a later date in New Jersey, with burial planned in the Long Island National Cemetery with Military Honors. Arrangements are under the direction of Goslar Funeral Home and Monuments, Onawa, Iowa.

Marco Alfonso was born August 11, 1938 in Bogota, Colombia, the son of Alfonso and Grace Duarte. He moved to the New York when he was sixteen years old. Marco served in the United States Air Force. He spent his career as a car salesman and manager for several different Cadillac and Lincoln Mercury dealers in the New Jersey area.

Marco loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He enjoyed sports and cars, especially his 1987 Lincoln Continental. Marco had a very charming personality and was loved by many.

Survivors include his children, Marco “Mike” (Dr. Sheila) Duarte of Onawa, Iowa, and Marshall Duarte of Rutherford, New Jersey; four grandchildren, Alyssa (Jason) Wojcik of Whiting, Iowa, Robyn (Lief) Jetton of Sioux City, Iowa, Marco Duarte, III of Onawa, Iowa, and Maria Duarte of Rutherford, New Jersey; two great-grandchildren, Claire Wojcik and Jack Wojcik; brother, Hank Duarte of Florida; and sister, Monica Duarte of New York; and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfonso and Grace Duarte; longtime companion, Josephine DiMeola; infant son, Mitchell Duarte; and sister, Mary.
