Obituary

Lottie Belle (Courtney) Pierce, 95, of Onawa, Iowa, passed away from this life on Thursday, March 9, 2023, at Burgess Health Center, Onawa, Iowa.

A celebration of her life will be 10:30 A.M. Wednesday, March 22, 2023, at the Hope Evangelical Free Church, Onawa, Iowa, with Pastor Stan Johnson, officiating. A live stream of the service will be posted on the Goslar Funeral Home Website with Lottie’s obituary. A luncheon at the church will take place right after the service. Per Lottie’s wishes, a private family scattering of her ashes will take place at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Goslar Funeral Home and Monuments, Onawa, Iowa.

Lottie was born July 11, 1927, the daughter of Charley Coy and Mattie Arlone (Ingle) Courtney near Maple Landing, Monona County, west of Whiting, Iowa. She attended country school through the 8th grade and graduated from Onawa High School with the class of 1943. Lottie attended National Business Training College in Sioux City, Iowa, and then worked for the Old Woodbury Bank in Sioux City.

She married Donald L. Pearson, Sr. in 1946 and they settled in Sioux City, Iowa, for a while. To this union, four children were born Don Jr., Keith, Charlotte, and Joanne. The two later divorced.

Lottie returned to Onawa, Iowa, in 1954 to raise her four children. As soon as the children were in school, she started working outside the home. She worked at Coop Café, Keitges Tobacco Company, Oliver Insurance Agency, Nichols-Carpenter Insurance (now Hoffman Agency), and West Monona School District. Later on, Lottie married Glen E. Pierce of Onawa, Iowa in 1968. Glen passed away in 1990. She retired from West Monona School District in 2007, after working eight years in the food service department. After retirement, she spent time volunteering at Elmwood Care Centre and Burgess Hospital.

She was a long-time member of the Onawa Hope Evangelical Free Church and the Onawa Legion Auxiliary Post #129. During Lottie’s free time, she was avid reader.

Lottie will be remembered for her ready smile and her joy of living.

Survivors include her two children, Keith W. (Beti) Pearson of Hermitage, Missouri, and Charlotte L. Bell of Onawa, Iowa; two stepchildren, Shawn Young of Sioux City, Iowa, and Steve Pierce, of Ankeny, Iowa; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
