Linda Jenelle Gundersen Obituary

Linda Jenelle Gundersen, 80, of Onawa, Iowa, died Sunday, February 8, 2026, at Burgess Health Center in Onawa, Iowa.

Cremation has taken place and a family graveside service will be held on Saturday, March 7, 2026, at 10:30 A.M. at Spring Valley Cemetery near Moorhead, Iowa with Darren C. E. Goslar, officiating. A Celebration of Life Visitation will be held that afternoon at Center Heights Recreation Room, 1017 11th Street in Onawa from 1:30 P.M. to 3:00 P.M on Saturday, March 7, 2026. Arrangements are under the direction of Goslar Funeral Home and Monuments, Onawa, Iowa.

Linda was born March 19, 1945, near Pisgah, Iowa, the daughter of Lawrence and Juanita (Holman) Gundersen.  She grew up on a farm and attended grade school in Pisgah through 4th grade.  At age 11, Linda lost her mother and went to live with her sister, Glendina, and family on a farm near Moorhead until high school graduation at East Monona in 1963. After graduation, Linda attended some business classes; she lived in Chicago, Illinois, and later in Colorado, doing office work.  After several years, she returned to Iowa and worked in sales at Slumberland and Fashion Floors in Sioux City.  After retiring from sales, Linda moved to Onawa in 2005 where she worked some part-time jobs, spending ten and a half years at Burgess Health Center, where she met many people and made many friends.

Linda grew up with a natural tenderness for all living things.  Over the years, her home was never without a feline companion – or two, or three.  She had a special way of earning the trust of even the shyest cats, and she cared for each one with unwavering devotion.  To her, they were family.

Linda served on the Center Heights Board of Directors for fifteen years.  She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary.  She enjoyed the special friendships formed with the members of the Sunday School sessions led by Lynne Deen from the First Christian Church.

Survivors include one sister, Carol Lindstrom, of Glenwood, Iowa; eight nieces and nephews; several great-nieces and nephews; great-great-nieces and nephews; and many friends.

Preceding her in death were her parents; Lawrence and Juanita (Holman) Gundersen; one sister, Glendina Peterson Barry; two brothers, Gale Gundersen and Guy Gundersen; one brother-in-law, Fred Peterson; one sister-in-law, Pearl Gundersen; two nieces, and four nephews.
