Then the eyes of the blind will be opened and the ears of the deaf unstopped (Isaiah 35:5)
Lee was born on June 26, 1939, in Mitchell, South Dakota, the first child of Marlowe and Dolores (Pipal) Lloyd. He grew up in Kimball, South Dakota and graduated from Kimball High School in 1957. Lee graduated from Northern State University with a teaching degree and began his teaching career in a one room schoolhouse. He later served as the Superintendent of Schools in Brule County. Lee had varied interests as a young man which included owning and driving a race car and earning a private pilot’s license. Later in life, he collected antique tractors.
He married Kathleen Brown of Comfrey, Minnesota in 1964. To this union, five children were born: Laura (Stan) Smith of Spearfish, South Dakota, Travis (Darla) Lloyd of Mapleton, Iowa, Keryn (Norman) Rowland of Mesa, Arizona, Trenton Lloyd of Laramie, Wyoming, and Amanda (Doug) Shriver of Dickinson, North Dakota.
When his sight began to fail, he moved to the farm for several years and later to the Black Hills where he owned and operated a motel in Spearfish, South Dakota and then an antique store in Lead, South Dakota. His last years were spent near his oldest son on a farm in Iowa where he experienced much joy from growing and sharing the labors of a bountiful garden.
He is survived by his wife, Kathleen Lloyd of Mesa, Arizona; five children; twelve grandchildren of whom he was immensely proud of, Allyson (Alex) Baruth, Alexa Lloyd, Ethan Lloyd, Olivia Smith, Griffin Smith, Logan Smith, Matthew Roland, Quinton Shriver, Georgianna Rowland, Cameron Shriver, Samuel Shriver and Tessa Shriver; and three great- grandchildren, Ayla, Archer and Arthur Baruth; his brother, Dean Lloyd of Palo Alto, California; sister, Marcia (Kevin) Knutson of Gillette, Wyoming; and numerous nieces and nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Marlowe and Dolores (Pipal) Lloyd.
