Laura Jean Ruffcorn

Laura Jean Ruffcorn, 45, of Little Sioux, Iowa passed away in her home on June 7, 2025 after a lengthy battle with cancer.

A private family graveside service will be held in the Little Sioux Cemetery, Little Sioux, Iowa with Hospice Chaplain Dale Wolf, officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Goslar Funeral Home and Monuments, Onawa, Iowa.  

Laura was born November 25, 1979 in Seoul, South Korea. She joined the family of Mark and Pam (Gessman) McNutt on June 25, 1980. Her family chose that day to celebrate both Laura and her sister, Valerie, annually and called it “Children’s Day”. Laura and her husband, Chad, chose to continue this tradition with their children and annually celebrated their own “Children’s Day” each July.

Laura attended Denison Community High School and graduated in 1998. Following graduation, she attended Western Iowa Tech where she received her associate’s degree and attended Buena Vista, Denison Campus.

On October 11, 2003, she was united into marriage to Chad Allen Ruffcorn. To this union two children were born, Kaitlyn and Carter, who were Laura’s heart and soul. Spending time together as a family was her favorite thing to do. They especially enjoyed trips to Walt Disney World, and it became their “happy place.”

She held various jobs over the years and took pride in being a dedicated hard worker who always did her best. She was very proud of her accomplishment of significantly lowering the accounts receivable in her twenty years at Burgess. Her most recent employment was at Compassus where she worked remotely until recently.

Laura spent many years serving as the leader for Kaitlyn’s Girl Scout troop. You would often see her dressed in raccoon T-shirts as she adored raccoons. Her family delighted in finding various other items such as pictures, figurines, and Christmas ornaments featuring raccoons as gifts to surprise her.

Survivors include her husband, Chad Ruffcorn of Little Sioux, Iowa; her children, Kaitlyn Ruffcorn and Carter Ruffcorn, both of Little Sioux, Iowa; mother, Pamala McNutt of Onawa, Iowa; sister, Valerie McNutt of Dallas, Texas; and many aunts and uncles, cousins, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her father, Mark McNutt; and parents-in-laws, Barb and Larry Ruffcorn.

Family requests no flowers. Memorials may be given in her memory to the family.
