Joy Ella Ehlers, 70, of Soldier, Iowa, passed away Friday, February 21, 2025, at Happy Siesta Health Care Center, Remsen, Iowa.
A memorial service will be 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, February 26, 2025, at the Soldier Lutheran Church, Soldier, Iowa, with Vicar Russell Stanislav, officiating. A live stream of the service will be posted on the Goslar Funeral Home website with Joy’s obituary. Burial will be held at a later date in the Soldier Lutheran Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Goslar Funeral Home and Monuments, Onawa, Iowa.
Joy Ella was born February 3, 1955, the daughter of Verne and Leona (Manitz) Ulven in Denison, Iowa. She attended East Monona High School and graduated with the class of 1973.
Joy and Rick Ehlers were united in marriage on November 2, 1974, in Soldier, Iowa. To this union they had four children: Tracy, Darcy, Jake, and Kassi.
She worked in retail at the Empire Mall and Hy-Vee in Sioux Falls, and then later retired in Soldier, Iowa.
Joy enjoyed reading and spending quality time with her family.
Survivors include her husband, Rick Ehlers of Soldier, Iowa; children, Tracy (Mitch) Van Beek of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Darcy (Scott) Shirk of Sheldon, Iowa, Jake (Emily) Ehlers of Carlisle, Iowa, and Kassi (Aaron) Hardison of Harrisburg, South Dakota; grandchildren, Alex and Zach Van Beek of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Elliott Shirk of Sheldon, Iowa, and Joseph, Jordan, and Audrey Ehlers of Carlisle, Iowa; brothers, Lon (Jo) Ulven, and Kirk (Danielle) Ulven; brother-in-law, Roger Gray; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Verne and Leona (Manitz) Ulven; sisters, Janet Foss, and Carol Gray; and brother, Jon Ulven.
