John Paul Smith, age 81, of Chesterfield, Missouri passed away on Thursday, February 29, 2024 at his home in Chesterfield, Missouri.

A private family graveside service will be held in the Kennebec Cemetery, Castana, Iowa. Arrangements are under the direction of Goslar Funeral Home and Monuments, Onawa, Iowa.

He was born in Castana, Iowa on April 24, 1942 to Paul and Caryl Smith (nee Zediker). John was a Executive at Peabody Coal Company for many years. He was married to Delores Smith (nee Miller) for 60 years.

John was an avid NASCAR fan. He also loved to read and work out in the yard. He would often go on long walks and hikes in the hills behind his Iowa farm with his wife, Delores. In his younger years, He loved to help his father with the farm and the cattle in Iowa. John was a devoted son and often traveled to visit his parents whenever he could. He was also a caregiver to his brother, Clark. John and his wife loved to travel internationally, visiting places like Europe, Australia, New Zealand. John also traveled for work to Japan, Taiwan, and many other places. John was also a passionate supporter of the Missouri Humane Society.

John is survived by his Wife, Delores Smith; Grandson, Christopher Paul Smith; Two Great-Grandchildren, Brandon Jacob Larkin and MacKenzie Robinson; Two Nephews, Eric Smith, Peter Smith; his loving dog, Molly; and a host of other family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his Son, Jeffrey John Smith; Father, Paul Leo Smith; Mother, Caryl Elizabeth Zediker; and Brother, Clark Edward Smith.
