Joan Carol Freyer was born July 11, 1932 to Carl Fred & Bertha (Hansen) Freyer at Galva, Iowa.

Joan’s father was a depot agent, the family moved many times.  She started school at California Jct, Iowa, then in 2nd grade they moved to Arthur, Iowa.  There the family became members of the Methodist Church.  There were many fond memories of the people in this small town. She then moved to Correctionville.  Joan loved to hike the hills, babysat, worked in the printer’s office for a local paper, then Klopp’s Drug Store.  She enjoyed being Toast Masters for the Mother-Daughter Banquet.  Joan was a member of the Rainbow Girls.

Joan started playing first string basketball in 7th grade.  Playing basketball with an oatmeal box and tennis ball tacked over the door in the kitchen with her brother Charles, no doubt helped her as a forward.  Joan then moved to Onawa where she continued her basketball career as a forward.  Her team participated in the Iowa State Basketball Tournament in 1949.  Joan was selected for many years to the Iowa Teams and two years for the Iowa All State Basketball Team.

Joan worked for Pearson Funeral Home in High School and enjoyed Rainbow Girls.  Joan later became a helper to the mother advisor and a member of the Grand Cross of Colors.  Joan is now a 50-year member of the Eastern Star.

Joan married Robert Miller and joined the First Christian Church.  She was a bible school teacher, pre-school Sunday school teacher, and belonged to Circle III for many years.  Joan enjoyed serving Kiwanis meals and helping with funerals.  Joan became an outdoor lady, helping with the farm work with her husband.  Joan learned to drive tractor & truck and hauled many loads of corn and beans to the elevator and the bins at home.

Joan and Robert wintered in Texas where she joined the Red Hat Society.  She enjoyed the fun and social part.  Joan was an avid bridge player and often would go to play four times a week.  Joan loved genealogy and did many family histories.  Joan worked many years to acquire all of the facts and pictures needed.

Joan left to mourn two sons, Kent (Vickie) Miller of Lincoln, Nebraska and Jeff Miller of Onawa, Iowa; grandchildren, Jennifer (Dennis) Collison of Onawa, Iowa, Sarah (Chris) Bolte of Bruning, Nebraska, and Chris (Stacey) Miller of Onawa, Iowa; seven great- grandchildren, Jordan, Tanner, Morgan and Maverick Bolte of Bruning, Nebraska, Emma Collison of Onawa, Iowa, and Jake and Josh Miller of Onawa, Iowa; step great-grandchildren, Josh Collison of Omaha, Nebraska and Jennifer (Nick) Bauerly of Sioux City, Iowa; great-great-grandchildren, Reagan and Colton Lee of Sioux City, Iowa; one sister-in-law, Mary Freyer of Arizona; and several nieces and nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
