Jeanne Delores Reed was born June 17, 1931, the daughter of Everett and Leone (DeLashmutt) Reed. She grew up on a farm by Whiting. Jeanne attended DeLashmutt Country School and graduated from Whiting High School with the class of 1949.

Jeanne first met Carroll Johnson at the Whiting skating rink, where their journey together began. They were united in marriage on December 28, 1952, at Bethesda Lutheran Church. Their loving partnership on the family farm west of Moorhead spanned 66 years, standing as a beautiful testament to their deep and enduring devotion to one another. Together, they lovingly raised five children: Julie, Scott, Kevin, Bryan, and Gregg. Carroll passed away on September 10, 2019, in Moorhead, Iowa, leaving behind a legacy of love and family.

Family meant everything to Jeanne. She never missed a single activity involving her children or grandchildren—whether it was a ball game, music concert, or any other event, she was always there to support them. While she had many hobbies that she enjoyed—quilting, cooking, canning corn, making jelly, gardening, knitting, crocheting, and playing cards—nothing compared to the importance of family in her life. Not a family gathering was complete without mom/grandma’s Apple Bars. Jeanne was also very active in the Bethesda Lutheran Church.

Survivors include her children, Julie (Kevin) Hall of Decatur, Nebraska, Scott (Debra) Johnson of Moorhead, Iowa, Kevin (Rhonda) Johnson of Moorhead, Iowa, Bryan (Sally) Johnson of Waterloo, Nebraska, and Gregg (Carla) Johnson of Waterloo, Nebraska; seventeen grandchildren, Jennifer, Cory, Jeremy, Chris, Melissa, Amber, Andria, Jessica, Megan, Candice, Tyler, Jacob, Amanda, Patrick, Peyton, Jordan, Ashton; thirty-two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Colleen Malmberg, and Shirley (Howard) Hatlelid; brother-in-law, Everett Carlton Ball; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Carroll Johnson; parents, Everett and Leone (DeLashmutt) Reed; parents-in-law, Andrew “AJ” and Lena (Sorenson) Johnson; sisters, Katherine Carlson Willey and Donna Ball; grandson, Jacob Johnson; and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

In Jeanne’s memory, memorials may be directed to: Bethesda Lutheran Church and Moorhead Fire and Rescue.
