Obituary

Jan Michelle Hime WAHOO - On July 24, 2022, Jan Michelle Hime passed away at Bryan Medical Center in Lincoln at the age of 68 with her family at her bedside.

A graveside service will be 11:00 A.M. June 17, 2023 at Graceland Cemetery, Blencoe, Iowa with Deacon Joe Scurlock, officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Goslar Funeral Home and Monuments, Onawa, Iowa.

Jan was born on June 20, 1954, in Onawa, Iowa, the eldest daughter of Robert and Wanda (Folsom) Hime. Shortly thereafter her family moved to northern California where Robert was stationed with the United States Air Force. Upon the completion of his service, Robert moved the family to southern California where he attended college. Jan started school in Sherman Oaks, California and thereafter endured numerous relocations between California and Colorado as her father pursued a career in the aerospace industry. The nomadic episode eventually ended when the family settled in Fountain Valley, California.

Jan attended high school in Fountain Valley, where she was very active in cheerleading and other prep team activities.

In 1978 Jan married Jim Tillery and to that union two children, Brandi Michelle and Cole James, were born. In 1986 Jan returned to Onawa, her birthplace, with Brandi and Cole and took up residence there.

She worked at Westendorf Manufacturing while attending college at Westmar University, receiving her degree in 1993. She then taught at Westmar until accepting a teaching position at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln, at which time she relocated to Wahoo. During her time in Iowa, she implemented the steps necessary to resume her maiden name and to legally change her children's surname to Hime. She continued to teach at UNL until 2017 at which time she retired to her home in Wahoo. During her tenure at UNL she completed the curricula necessary to receive her master’s degree.

Jan's life was centered around her family. She was deeply involved in her children's activities and carried on the tradition after being blessed with grandchildren. One of her greatest joys was spending summer evenings on her patio surrounded by family and friends.

She is survived by her daughter, Brandi (special friend Mike); her son Cole (Amanda) and their children, Dylan, Lillyann and Josephine; her father; her sisters, Denise Leger of Huntington Beach, California and Sydney Hime of Jefferson City, Missouri; her brother, Robert of Odessa, Missouri and several nephews and nieces.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Wanda, her grandparents, and several aunts and uncles. Her departure leaves a gap in our lives that cannot be filled. Rest peacefully Jan Michelle, you have earned it.
