James “Donald” Munhofen, 93, of Sloan, Iowa passed away Sunday, February 20, 2022 at his residence.
A funeral service will be 10:30 A.M. Monday, February 28, 2022 at the Whiting Christian Church, Whiting, Iowa with Pastor Josh Nink and Elder Bryce McFarland, officiating. A live stream of the service will be posted on the Goslar Funeral Home website with Don's obituary. A luncheon will follow the service at the church. Burial will be 1:30 P.M. Monday, February 28, 2022 at Memorial Park Cemetery, Sioux City, Iowa with Military Honors provided by the United States Navy and the Smith-Rhodes American Legion Post #295 of Sloan, Iowa. A visitation will be 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. Sunday, February 27, 2022 with a prayer service at 7:00 P.M. at the Whiting Christian Church, Whiting, Iowa. Arrangements are under the direction of Goslar Funeral Home and Monuments, Onawa, Iowa.
James Donald was born March 16, 1928 in South Sioux City, Nebraska, the son of Jesse and Alice (Moore) Munhofen. He attended school in South Sioux City and later obtained his GED at Western Iowa Tech in Sioux City.
Don Munhofen and Donna Rae Birdsall were united in marriage on May 29, 1955 at the Church of Christ in Mondamin, Iowa. Three children were born to this union, Scott, Barry, and Melissa. Donna passed away August 16, 2016.
Don was a barber for several years in Sloan, Iowa. He worked at AGP in Sergeant Bluff, Iowa until his retirement. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and carpentry. He loved spending time with his family. Don was very active in missionary work.
Don was a member of the Whiting Christian Church in Whiting, Iowa.
Survivors include his children, Barry James Munhofen of Sloan, Iowa, Melissa (Shawn) Jones of Frisco, Texas; grandchildren, James Munhofen of Sloan, Iowa, Blake Jones of Texas, Hunter Jones of Texas, Raven (Jason) Babineaux of Alabama, and Tiffany (Jason) Michaud of Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin; great-grandchildren, Courtney, Haley, Makenzie, Charlie, Henry, Caity, and Jaime; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Donna Rae Munhofen; parents, Jesse and Alice (Moore) Munhofen; son, Scott Munhofen; and several brothers and sisters.
