James Calvin Fox was born February 16, 1943 in Sioux City, Iowa, the son of George Calvin and Ida Gladys (Gray) Fox. He graduated from West Monona High School with the class of 1961. In 1962/1963 he went on to trade school for body work in Omaha, Nebraska.
He was a dedicated mechanic who owned and operated Fox Automotive from 1969 to 1999 in Onawa, and later resumed the business in Blencoe in 2002, continuing until 2014. Jim owned and operated J & J Computer Repair in Onawa until his retirement.
Foxie enjoyed classic cars, mushroom hunting, watching Newsmax, building hot rods, working on computers, and watching NASCAR every Sunday. Known to those who knew him as “Mr. Carburetor” and “Mr. Pontiac,” Jim seemed to have knowledge about just about everything—always ready with a story or an answer to any question you asked.
He enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren and took special pride in teaching his son Jason how to work on cars. Throughout his life, Jim had two beloved dogs, Spot and Rocky. He was a member of the Jaycees for a short time and also was a member of the First Christian Church in Onawa.
