Iila Arlene Reed (Treece), 93, passed away peacefully on June 13, 2026 in Lake Zurich, Illinois. Born on May 22, 1933 on a family farm in Onawa, Iowa, Iila lived a remarkable life filled with love, adventure, and creativity.

A visitation will be held 4:30 P.M. – 7:30 P.M. on Friday, June 26, 2026 at the Goslar Funeral Home Chapel, 1629 10th Street, Onawa, Iowa, 51040. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, June 27, 2026, at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Mapleton, Iowa with Jack Gibler, officiating. A recording of the service will be posted on the Goslar Funeral Home website with Iila’s obituary. Arrangements are under the direction of Goslar Funeral Home and Monuments, Onawa, Iowa.

Growing up on the family farm instilled in Iila a deep appreciation for hard work and adaptability. She cherished her childhood alongside her two sisters, Neoma (the late Neoma Smith) and Imogene (Imogene Crosgrove), enjoying the simplicity of farm life, riding horses, and embracing the values of resilience and resourcefulness. These early experiences shaped her vibrant spirit and prepared her for the many adventures that lay ahead.

While in high school, Iila met the love of her life, Charles “Chuck” Reed. Their courtship blossomed into a nearly 70-year marriage filled with devotion and shared experiences until Charles’ passing in 2021. Together they built a beautiful life centered around their family and an enduring partnership that weathered countless moves across the globe due to Charles’ career. Iila made full circle moving her household from Iowa to Virginia, Illinois, Mississippi, Germany, Switzerland, Texas, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, New York and finally back to Iowa. Each new location brought unique challenges and opportunities that Iila embraced wholeheartedly. She immersed herself in local customs and traditions while maintaining a stable and loving home for their three children: Randall Reed (married to Glenda Reed), Michael Reed (married to Lois Reed), and Rachelle Saitta (married to Frank Saitta).

Iila’s role as a mother was one of her greatest joys. She took immense pride in her children’s accomplishments and delighted in watching her family grow. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren: Denielle Saitta and Elyse Reed-Garcia (married to Javier Garcia) with their children Elena Garcia and Javier Garcia Jr.

Beyond her dedication to family, Iila was a woman of many talents and passions. She found joy in playing cards, sewing intricate creations, solving crossword puzzles, tending to her garden, completing jigsaw puzzles, watching game shows with enthusiasm, dining out with loved ones over good food and wine, and spending quality time with friends and family. Her creativity shone through in every endeavor she pursued.

Iila also had an adventurous spirit that led her to travel extensively throughout her life. She explored the Far East, Middle East, South America, Russia, and beyond—experiences that enriched her perspective on the world. Yet despite these far-flung travels, she always found peace in simple pleasures like serene car rides through Monona County or admiring the pastoral beauty of the Loess Hills near her birthplace.

Her warmth and enthusiasm left an indelible mark on everyone who knew her. Whether hosting gatherings or sharing stories from her extraordinary life journey, Iila had a way of making those around her feel cherished.

As we bid farewell to this remarkable woman who lived life so fully—with grace, humor, strength—and who touched so many lives along the way—we celebrate all that she accomplished during her 93 years among us. May Iila Arlene Reed’s memory bring comfort to those who loved her dearly.
