George Carrier Obituary

George Eugene Carrier, 73, of Onawa, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, April 19, 2023, at Burgess Health Center, Onawa, Iowa.

A celebration of life service will be 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, April 26, 2023, at the First Christian Church, Onawa, Iowa, with Pastor Clif Cockburn, officiating.  A live stream of the service will be posted on the Goslar Funeral Home website with George’s obituary. Burial will follow in the Onawa Cemetery, Onawa, Iowa, with Military Honors will be provided by the United States Army and David McNeill American Legion Post #129, Onawa, Iowa. A visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Arrangements are under the direction of Goslar Funeral Home and Monuments, Onawa, Iowa.

George was born April 9, 1950, the son of Robert and Mildred (McJunkins) Carrier. He attended school in Onawa, Iowa, and graduated with the class of 1969. George served in the United States Army from August 27, 1969, until his honorable discharge on February 29, 1972.

George and Debra Sue Flint were united into marriage on November 29, 1974, in Onawa, Iowa. To this union three children were born, Justin, Corrina, and Betsy. The couple were later divorced.

George worked for the City of Onawa for over thirty-five years and when he retired, he was working in the water and sewer department. George was a leader for boy scouts for many years.

He enjoyed cribbage, camping, carving, collecting shot glasses, and especially spending time with his grandkids. He will be remembered for his delicious rhubarb pies and fudge.

He was a member at the First Christian Church in Onawa, Iowa.

Survivors include his children, Justin (Amanda) Carrier of Scribner, Nebraska, Corrina (Ben Bremmer) Schild of Onawa, Iowa, and Betsy (Nathan) Brodersen of Mapleton, Iowa; grandchildren, Chandler Carrier, Izabella Carrier, Lillie Schild, Kristina Schild, Caleb Schild, Jasmine Schild, Montana Brodersen, Kaylee Brodersen, Autumn Brodersen, and Brayden Brodersen; expecting a great-grandson in August; brothers, Harry (Sue) Carrier of Onawa, Iowa, and Roger (Lucille) Carrier of Macedonia, Iowa; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Mildred (McJunkins) Carrier.
