Gerald “Gary” D. Collison, 85, of Blencoe, Iowa passed away Monday, December 29, 2025 in his home surrounded by his wife and friends.
A memorial service will be held at 4:00 P.M. Friday, January 2, 2026 at the Goslar Funeral Home Chapel with Darren C. E. Goslar, officiating with Military Honors provided by the United States Army, Stevens-Kelly American Legion Post #665, of Blencoe, Iowa, and the David McNeill American Legion Post #129 of Onawa, Iowa. A live stream of the service will be posted on the Goslar Funeral Home website with Gary’s obituary. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Friday, January 2, 2026 at the Goslar Chapel in Onawa. Arrangements are under the direction of Goslar Funeral Home and Monuments, Onawa, Iowa.
Gerald Dean Collison was born February 27, 1940 in Little Sioux, Iowa, the son of Bert and Anna (Wood) Collison. The family lived on a farm near Blencoe, Iowa, and Gary graduated from Blencoe High School with the class of 1958. He enlisted in the Army National Guard from September 1, 1959 until August 1, 1962. Gary served in the United States Army from September 1, 1962 and was honorable discharged on August 1, 1963.
He farmed for many years around the Little Sioux area.
Gary and Loris (Jones) Collison were united into marriage in March of 1962. To this marriage two children were born, Lisa and Sarah.
Gary worked for the Monona County Drainage District for many years until his retirement.
Gary and Kary (Blankenship) Collison were united into marriage June 20, 2015 and lived in Blencoe, Iowa until his passing.
Gary loved playing cards, fishing, hunting, and camping. He especially enjoyed floating trips on the Missouri River and spending time with friends, but more than anything, he took great pride in being ornery.
Survivors include his wife, Kary Collison of Blencoe, Iowa; two daughters, Lisa (John) Shaib of California, and Sarah Collison of Kansas City; special kid to him, Martha Ann (Chase Fender) Osgood of Onawa, Iowa; four grandchildren, Lauren Shaib, Jackie Shaib, Kaylee Hoden, and Wrenley Fender; brother, Bert (Connie) Collison of Weaver, Alabama; his fur babies; and many nieces and nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Bert and Anna (Wood) Collison; former wife, Loris (Jones) Collison; two brothers, Douglas “Doug” Collison and Richard “Dick” Collison; infant sister, Phyllis Collison; and four nieces and nephews.
Kary would like to express her heartfelt gratitude to the Burgess Health care providers and hospice staff who provided him with excellent care during his time of need. She would also like to extend a special thank you to a cherished family friend, Sandy Beechy for her thoughtful support and special touch.
