Eddie D. Grell, 63, of Soldier, Iowa passed away unexpectedly, Monday, July 27, 2026 at his residence.

A memorial service will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, August 8, 2026 at Goslar Funeral Home Chapel, Onawa, Iowa with Darren C. E. Goslar, officiating. A live stream of the service will be posted on the Goslar Funeral Home website with Eddie’s obituary. Burial will follow in the Grant Township Cemetery, rural Ticonic, Iowa. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Saturday, August 8, 2026 at the Goslar Chapel. Arrangements are under the direction of Goslar Funeral Home and Monuments, Onawa, Iowa.

Eddie Dwain Grell was born on September 15, 1962, in Sioux City, Iowa, to Arnold “A.J.” Grell, Sr. and Velma "Molly" (Carter) Grell. He was the youngest of nine children and grew up on the family farm west of Mapleton, Iowa. From an early age, Eddie was known for his fun-loving spirit and adventurous nature, qualities that remained with him throughout his life. He graduated from Maple Valley High School with the class of 1980.

Following his graduation, Eddie spent many years working as an over-the-road truck driver, a career that suited his independent spirit and love of the open road.

Outside of work, Eddie found joy in riding motorcycles, collecting guns, and spending time on horseback. He was known for his generous heart and willingness to help others, never hesitating to do anything he could for someone in need.

Survivors include his brother, Arnold “Butch” Grell of Moville, Iowa; two sisters, Cora Howley of Del Rio, Texas and Velma (Tina) Grell of Sheldon, Iowa; sister-in-law, LuAnn Grell of Whiting, Iowa; two brothers-in-law, Rex Persinger of Hornick, Iowa and Mark Persinger of Hornick, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Arnold and Velma Grell; infant daughter, Alina Kay Schloesser-Grell; siblings, Bonnie Jacoby, Sarah Persinger, Matt Grell, Willie Grell, and Katie Persinger; sister-in-law, Charlene Grell; and two brothers-in-law, Jack Howley and Ronnie Jacoby.
