E. Jean (Carlson) Hadden Obituary

E. Jean (Carlson) Hadden, 93, of Papillion, Nebraska, formerly of Soldier and Onawa, IA., passed away Wednesday, August 10, 2022 at the Josie Harper Hospice House in Omaha.

The funeral service will be at 1:00 P.M., Tuesday, August 16th, at the Soldier Lutheran Church in Soldier, Iowa, with Pastor Paul Coen and Pastor Linda Walz, officiating. A live stream of the service will be posted on the Goslar Funeral Home website with Jean’s obituary. Burial will follow in the Jordan Cemetery, Soldier, Iowa.  Arrangements are under the direction of Goslar Funeral Home and Monuments in Onawa, Iowa.

Jean was born February 9, 1929, in Sloan, Iowa, to Edwin and Goldie (Smith) Carlson.  She grew up in the rural area and attended Sloan Consolidated School, graduating as valedictorian in 1947.  After graduation, she worked as bookkeeper for the Haakinson Ford Motor Company in Sloan.

Jean and Lewis Hadden were united in marriage on January 23, 1949, in the home of Jean’s parents.  To this union one daughter was born.  They were blessed with nearly 68 years of marriage before Lewie’s passing in May 2016.

The couple farmed in the Soldier area until retirement in 1989.  In 2000, the couple moved to Onawa, Iowa.  In 2013, they moved to Trinity Village, an independent living community in Papillion, Nebraska. In 2015, they moved to an assistant living apartment at Trinity Village where the staff and care givers became like family to Lewie and Jean.

Jean was a daughter, wife, mother, grandma, aunt, friend and “Mama Jean” to a few others whom she “adopted.”  Her quiet strength and compassion touched many lives.

She was a member of the Soldier Lutheran Church and WELCA. She held offices in WELCA, Monona County Farm Bureau Board, Farm Bureau Women’s Group, and Jordan Birthday Club.  She took pleasure in making decorations for the Monona County fair booth and for events such as Farm Bureau annual meetings.

Jean loved to bake and share her goodies with visitors.  She had fun playing cards and Mexican train dominoes with family, relatives and friends.  She also enjoyed sewing, scrapbooking, and crafting.  And she loved her chocolate candy!

Survivors include her daughter, Patricia Jones and husband Jerry of Omaha, Nebraska; grandson, Matthew Jones of Omaha, Nebraska; four nieces; two nephews-in-law; and other relatives and friends.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Edwin and Goldie (Smith) Carlson; her husband, Lewis Hadden; her father and mother-in-law, Walter and Annie (Anderson) Hadden; her sister, Delores Sletton; and sister-in-law and her husband, Elsie and Gene Blanchard.

Memorial contributions may be made in Jean’s honor to Soldier Lutheran Church, Soldier, Iowa.
