Don Roy was born November 4, 1935, in Omaha, Nebraska, the son of Roy and Mariam (Carritt) Hadden. He was blessed to be able to grow up on Hadden Hollow in the heart of the Loess Hills, among aunts, uncles, and cousins. Don used to proudly brag that the land had good drainage.
Don enjoyed his college years at Wayne State College and Iowa State University. He moved to Council Bluffs to work at the ASC Office. Don moved his family back to Hadden Hollow to spend most of his years farming which was his passion. He also worked at the Iowa State Experimental Farm where he made life long friends and continued to work at his passion. When he retired Don and Darlene moved to Sergeant Bluff, Iowa, where they made new friends and spent a lot of time at ballgames watching their grandkids play.
Don met the love of his life on a blind date organized by his sister Ruth. Don and Darlene Marie Habinck were married on April 19, 1958. That began a life of love that lasted for sixty-five years. The couple were blessed with three children, Alan, Dora, and Kevin.
