Diane Kalskett Obituary

Diane Audrey Kalskett, 71, of Soldier, Iowa, passed away Sunday, April 7, 2024, at Burgess Health Center, Onawa, Iowa.

A funeral service will be 10:00 A.M. Friday, April 12, 2024, at the Bethesda Lutheran Church in Moorhead, Iowa, with Pastor Chip Borgstadt, officiating. A recording of the service will be posted on the Goslar Funeral Home website with Diane’s obituary. Burial will follow in the Spring Valley Cemetery, Moorhead, Iowa. A visitation will be 5:00 P.M. – 7:00 P.M. Thursday, April 11, 2024, with a 7:00 P.M. prayer service at the Bethesda Lutheran Church, Moorhead, Iowa. Arrangements are under the direction of Goslar Funeral Home and Monuments, Onawa, Iowa.

Diane was born December 3, 1952, in Owatonna, Minnesota, the daughter of Edward and Ruby (Thoreson) Marik. She attended Red Wing High School and graduated with the class of 1971. Diane continued her education at Winona State College where she graduated in 1975, with her Bachelor of Science Degree. She then went on to Drake University and graduated with her Masters Degree in Education Administration.

Diane and Gary Kalskett were united in marriage on July 30, 1977, in Soldier, Iowa.

Diane had a passion for education. She taught twenty-two years at East Monona, and then at Woodbine Schools for twelve years teaching high school math and business. Diane taught Algebra for many years at Western Iowa Tech Community College in Denison, Iowa. After retiring, she continued to sub at various schools including West Monona. Diane had taught for over forty-nine years.

She enjoyed gardening, canning, reading, playing marbles, cards, dice, and candy crush. Diane was an avid Minnesota Vikings fan. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and attending their sporting events. Diane enjoyed many vacations traveling with her family and friends.

Diane was an active member of the Bethesda Lutheran Church, Moorhead, Iowa, where she severed as a council secretary, a Luther League Sponsor, and various other activities.

Survivors include her loving husband, Gary Kalskett of Soldier, Iowa; two children, Wade Kalskett of Onawa, Iowa, and Mary (Josh) Mauch of Council Bluffs, Iowa; grandchildren, twins Sendeska and Megaeska Kalskett, Autumn Mauch, and twins Jordyn and Dan Mauch; brothers, Tom (Clara) Marik of Lake City, Minnesota, and Raymond Marik of Red Wing, Minnesota; sister, Darlene (Tom) Tingerthal of Chillicothe, Missouri; sisters-in-law, Terri (Gary) Savery of Onawa, Iowa, Jeanne (Doug) Nelsen of Soldier, Iowa, Susan (Bill) Kirlin of Modale, Iowa, and Rita (Gary) Utman of Modale, Iowa; brother-in-law, Craig (Peg) Kalskett of Leland, Iowa; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Ruby (Thoreson) Marik; parents-in-law, Jim and Elsie (Moltsau) Kalskett; and Gary’s infant twin siblings, Lisa and Larry Kalskett.
