Darrell G. McTeer Obituary

Darrell G. McTeer, 73, of Smithland, Iowa passed away Saturday, April 11, 2026 at Burgess Health Center, Onawa, Iowa.

Per Darrell’s wishes, cremation has been accorded. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date at First Oldfield Full Gospel Church, in Oldfield, Missouri. Arrangements are under the direction of Goslar Funeral Home and Monuments, Onawa, Iowa.

Darrell Gene was born March 7, 1953 in Christian County, Missouri, to Leonard and Earnesteen (Jackson) McTeer. Darrell served in the United States Army and was honorably discharged.

Darrell worked as the head chef at a steakhouse in Ozark, Missouri, where he mastered the art of cooking. He also took on the demanding work of cutting railroad ties at a sawmill.

Darrell and Dianne (Kleinjan) Cardwell were united into marriage February 14, 2000 in Elk Point, South Dakota.

Darrell worked at Meyer Pallet in South Sioux City, Nebraska, where he took on the roles of loader, de barker, and sawyer.

Darrell found his greatest joy in the outdoors—whether he was hunting, fishing, or simply soaking in nature. He had a deep appreciation for firearms as a dedicated enthusiast. He enjoyed spending time with all of his grandchildren.  

Survivors include his wife, Dianne McTeer; children, Angela (Dustin) Conaway and Sarah Cardwell; grandchildren, Teigan, Aria, Rayne, Rowen, Charlotte, and Ryan; sister-in-law, Vicky McTeer; nieces, Deborah (Jeff Grimes) Trimble, Rebecca Trimble, Rachel (Jason) Stutesman, and Rayla McTeer; nephews, Matthew Wren, and Charles (Kat) McTeer; great nieces and nephews, Chelsie McTeer, Frankie Grimes, Landon Grimes, Clayton Hayes, Phillip Thomas, Brent Smallwood, Shana Anne McTeer, Amy Lou Wolf, Dalton Dunn, Aurora McTeer, Autumn McTeer, and Mimi McTeer; great-great nieces and nephews, Elizabeth, Prezley, Knox, Olivia, Bailey, Noah, Quinlynn, and Bentley; and many cousins, other relatives, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Earnesteen (Jackson) McTeer; brother, Lonnie McTeer; sister, Leona McTeer; niece, Jennifer Wolf; nephew, Curtis McTeer; grandson, John McTeer; mother-in-law, Norma Kleinjan; and great nieces, Kayla McTeer and Destiny McTeer.
