Darlene Cannon Obituary

Darlene Mae Cannon, 87, of Ute, Iowa, passed away Sunday, May 18, 2025, at Burgess Health Center, Onawa, Iowa.

A funeral service will be 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, May 27, 2025 at the First Christian Church, Onawa, Iowa with Pastor Clif Cockburn, officiating. A live stream of the service will be posted on the Goslar Funeral Home website with Darlene’s obituary. A luncheon will follow the service at the church. Burial will take place at the Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Denison, Iowa. A visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Goslar Funeral Home and Monuments, Onawa, Iowa.

Darlene Mae was born August 9, 1937, in Denison, Iowa, the daughter of John and Bernice (Bohm) Fast.

Darlene and John Short were united in marriage on June 23, 1956. John passed away in 1986. Later Darlene and Homer Cannon were united into marriage. Homer passed in 2014.       

Darlene was a daycare provider for many years, and later she worked as a dishwasher at the Trio Café in Denison, Iowa.

She had a love for the outdoors, going on walks, spending time in her garden, and tending to her flowers. Darlene enjoyed watching NASCAR and dirt track races, making her house festive for the holidays, and she loved babies. Darlene also had a sweet tooth for ice cream and chocolate. She was known for her fashion style and always wore outfits that were perfectly coordinated with her hair, nails and jewelry.

Survivors include her daughters, Renee (Chaow) Nawanna of Dunlap, Iowa, and Regina Short of Blencoe, Iowa; sons-in-law, Ronald Bedsaul of Dow City, Iowa, and Richie Bedsaul of Sutherland, Iowa; seventeen grandchildren; thirty-six great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; sister, Sherlane Wingfield of Pacific Junction, Iowa, brother, Jack Fast of Arkansas; sister-in-law, Sharon Fast of Manning, Iowa; and many other relatives, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Bernice (Bohm) Fast; husbands, John Short and Homer Cannon; son, Rickey Short; daughters, Rhonda Bedsaul and Rebecca Bedsaul; brothers, Darrell “Bucky” (Sheryl) Fast, and James Fast; and grandson, Caleb John Short.
