Clifford "Butch" Lyle Harding

Clifford “Butch” Lyle Harding, 80, of Castana, Iowa, passed away Thursday, May 2, 2024, at CHI Health Mercy, Council Bluffs, Iowa.

A graveside memorial service will be 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, May 7, 2024, at Harrison Cemetery, Whiting, Iowa, with Ken Carlson, (friend of the family), officiating. Military Honors will be provided by the United States Army and the Grimsley – Thayer American Legion Post #502, of Castana, Iowa. A recording of the service will be posted on the Goslar Funeral Home website with Butch’s obituary. Arrangements are under the direction of Goslar Funeral Home and Monuments, Onawa, Iowa.

Clifford Lyle was born November 12, 1943, in Onawa, Iowa, the oldest son of Bernard and Doris (Jordan) Harding. He grew up in Whiting, Iowa, and graduated from Whiting High School in 1962. Butch proudly served in the United States Army April 6, 1965 and was honorably discharged April 5, 1967.

Butch and Barbara Rich were united in marriage on August 29, 1978, in Onawa, Iowa.

He was a truck driver, traveling over the roads for many years. Butch worked for Loomis and Son’s of Onawa, Iowa, Olson Trucking out of Dakota City, Nebraska, Schweitzberger Trucking out of Kinglsey, Iowa, Weinrich that he retired from out of Hinton, Iowa, and numerous other jobs.

Butch enjoyed NASCAR, all sports, and reading westerns.

He was a member of the Whiting Christian Church and the Grimsley – Thayer American Legion Post #502, of Castana, Iowa.

Survivors include his wife Barb Harding of Castana, Iowa; children, Jeri (Steve) Strong of Alcester, South Dakota, Jon Harding of Hawarden, Iowa, James (Sarah) Harding of Spring, Texas, and Corey (Kelly) Harding of Moberly, Missouri; grandchildren, Katie (Kyle) Vandenhull, Cody (Claire) Strong, Garret Harding, Jeya Harding, Sierra Harding, Dillion Harding, Briley Harding, Acacia Harding, and Daniel Harding; great-grandchildren, Lily and Wyatt Vandenhull and Gavin and Wesley Strong; brother, Ronald “Dean” (Linda) Harding of Davenport, Iowa; and other family members, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bernard and Doris (Jordan) Harding; daughter-in-law, Hellen Harding; granddaughter, Ava Harding; grandson, Corey “CJ” Ryan Harding, Jr; and infant triplets from his prior marriage.
