Cleona L. Wilson Obituary

Cleona L. Wilson, 83, of Mondamin, Iowa passed away Saturday, July 26, 2025 at CHI Health Creighton University Medical Center- Bergan Mercy, Omaha, Nebraska.

A private family memorial service will be held at the Goslar Funeral Home Chapel, Onawa, Iowa with Pastor Wayne Bahr, officiating. Burial will be held in the Magnolia Cemetery, Magnolia, Iowa. Arrangements are under the direction of Goslar Funeral Home and Monuments, Onawa, Iowa.

Cleona LaRelle was born December 1, 1941, in Pisgah, Iowa, the daughter of John and Gilma (Kline) Hinkel. Growing up on a farm near Pisgah, she treasured the many memories of life on the farm with her four older brothers. Cleona graduated from Pisgah High School with the class of 1960. Her proudest moment was going to the state basketball tournament in high school.

Cleona Hinkel and Orville “Bud” Wilson were united into marriage February 2, 1962 in Mondamin, Iowa. To this union three children were born, Maredith, Lisa, and Chad. Together they enjoyed raising their children.

Cleona spent a few years working in Omaha, Nebraska where she was employed at Mutual of Omaha and later employed at Perfection Form, in Logan, Iowa, specializing in book binding. In addition to her professional work, she also drove the school bus for after-school activities, which gave her the opportunity to support and enjoy watching her children as they cheered and played in various sport activities.

She loved crocheting, chatting with family and friends over the phone, parades in the pickup, and admiring her son’s classic cars. Thoughtful and devoted, she never missed a chance to send birthday cards and anniversary cards to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and she cherished Christmas Eve gatherings. She took great joy in watching her grandchildren’s activities—whether it was sports events, dance recitals, 4-H, or music programs, she was always there to support and celebrate them.

Survivors include her loving husband of sixty-three years, Orville “Bud” Wilson of Mondamin, Iowa; her children, Maredith (Tim) Hodgson of Blencoe, Iowa, Lisa (Roger) Wrich of Blair, Nebraska, and Chad (Rachelle Thibert) Wilson of Mondamin, Iowa; seven grandchildren, Amber Wilson, Skyler Beck, Garrett (Alisha) Wrich, Margo (fiancé Caleb Hartmann) Wrich, Sophia Wrich, Heath (Erin) Hodgson, and Tasha (Peter) Lewis; five great-grandchildren, Tyler, Ada, Lena, Ellodie, and Burke; one brother, Larry “Bing” (Tena) Hinkel of Mapleton, Iowa; sister-in-law, Carol (Roger) Spooner of Mondamin, Iowa; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Gilma (Kline) Hinkel; parents-in-law, LeRoy and Wilma (Johnson) Wilson; grand-daughter, Liza Wilson Wrich who passed away on October 6, 2004; infant sister, Emma Hinkel; three brothers, Lyle Hinkel, Earl Hinkel, and Kermit Hinkel; and many beloved nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
