Brooklyn Grace Melton

Brooklyn Grace Melton, 7, of Castana, Iowa, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, February 9, 2023, at Burgess Health Center, Onawa, Iowa.

A celebration of life service will be 11:00 A.M. Saturday, February 18, 2023, at Hope Evangelical Free Church, Onawa, Iowa, with Pastor Stan Johnson, officiating. A live stream of the service will be posted on the Goslar Funeral Home website with Brooklyn’s obituary. A visitation will be 5:00 – 8:00 P.M. Friday, February 17, 2023, at Goslar Funeral Home Chapel, Onawa, Iowa. A private family burial will take place on Saturday before the service at the Jordan Cemetery, Soldier, Iowa.  Arrangements are under the direction of Goslar Funeral Home and Monuments, Onawa, Iowa.

Brooklyn Grace was born October 1, 2015, in Castana, Iowa, the daughter of Rocky and Dixie (Obbink) Melton. She was born and raised near Castana, Iowa. Brooklyn was homeschooled and currently in 1st grade. She attended Jordan Valley Bible Church and Hope Evangelical Free Church, where she loved learning about Jesus.

She was a people person that loved hugs, and knew how to light up a room with her personality and smile. Brooklyn enjoyed being a hard-working kid. This hard-working cowgirl loved her animals from dogs, cats, to horses. She was always wearing her favorite hat, boots, and carrying her pocket knife. Brooklyn loved listening to music, dancing, and doing cartwheels. She went in the truck with her daddy any chance she got. She even prodded a few cows now and then.

Survivors include her parents, Rocky and Dixie Melton of Castana, Iowa; four brothers, Draven (26) (Alanna) Smizer of Mapleton, Iowa, Reuben Melton (19) of Castana, Iowa, Kaden Melton (16) of Castana, Iowa, and Tysen Melton (14) of Castana, Iowa; one sister, Braelyn Melton (10) of Castana, Iowa; niece, Faith Smizer of Mapleton, Iowa; nephew, Rustin Smizer of Mapleton, Iowa; grandparents, Duane and Arlis Obbink of Rock Valley, Iowa; grandma, Joyce Christensen of Battle Creek, Iowa; great-grandma, Donna Obbink of Sioux Center, Iowa; aunts and uncles, Dan (Tanya) Obbink of Bellingham, Washington, Tim (Marlys) Obbink of Sioux Center, Iowa, Jenny Kling of Hemet, California, Holly Melton of Ashland, Kentucky, Hoss Melton of Tehachapi, California, Michael Dance of Sioux City, Iowa, Lori (Steve) Philips of Ida Grove, Iowa, Lisa (Glen Hanson) Anderson of Greenfield, Iowa, Lynn (Ted) Christensen of Fontanelle, Iowa, Leslee (Josh Smith) Tromp of Ankeny, Iowa, and Chuck (Tasha) Tromp of Clay Center, Kansas; and many cousins, other relatives, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her grandpa, Bob Hawthorn, great-grandpa, John Obbink; and great-grandparents, William and Hermina VanBochove.
