Brenda Roarson

Brenda Roarson, 79, of Onawa, Iowa, passed away, Friday, May 2, 2025 at her residence surrounded by her family.

A memorial graveside service will be 11:00 A.M. Saturday, May 10, 2025 at the Fairview Township Cemetery, Albaton, Iowa with Pastor Paul Coen, officiating. A recording of the service will be posted on the Goslar Funeral Home website with Brenda’s obituary. A luncheon will follow the burial at the Skien Lutheran Church, Albaton, Iowa. Arrangements are under the direction of Goslar Funeral Home and Monuments, Onawa, Iowa.

Brenda Joyce was born October 26, 1945 in Sioux City, Iowa the daughter of Carl Daniel and Helen Dorothy (Redmond) Carlson. She grew up in the country near Albaton, Iowa and graduated from Westwood High School in 1964. She married her high school sweetheart, Dennis Roarson on January 10, 1965 at the Skien Lutheran Church, Albaton, Iowa. To this union, two children were born, Bryan and Christi. Denny’s work took them to many places, (Sloan, Iowa – Alta, Iowa – Worthington, Minnesota – Elmore, Minnesota) – until they settled and retired in Onawa, Iowa.

Brenda ran a used clothing store, “Yours and Ours” with a friend in Elmore, Minnesota. She worked at Onawa Foods and Crossroads in Onawa, where she made many friends throughout that time. She loved to sew and sewed many things as well as hemming pants for many patrons, but most of all she loved her family! Spending time with them was the most important thing to her.

Some of her favorite things were sewing, playing cards, camping, and word find puzzles. She also enjoyed thrifting and a good garage sale. She had lots of fun and was loved by anyone she met.

Brenda was a member of the Faith Lutheran Church in Onawa, Iowa.

She is survived by her husband of sixty years, Dennis Roarson of Onawa, Iowa; two children, Bryan (Jody) Roarson of Sloan, Iowa, and Christi (David) Curtis of Buffalo Center, Iowa; four grandchildren, Allie (Dylan) VanBrocklin of Fairmont, Minnesota, Zach (Quinn) Curtis of Morton, Minnesota, Seth (Stephanie) Marks of Hubbard, Nebraska, and Shane (Maria) Petersen of Blue Earth, Minnesota; great grandchildren, Owen and Briggs VanBrocklin and Manny, Ricky, and Mia Petersen; sisters-in-law, Carol Jean (Randy) King and Bev Roarson; and many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl D. and Helen D. (Redmond) Carlson; parents-in-law, Owen and Iva (Claus) Roarson; brothers-in-law, Jerry (Janice) Roarson and Jon Roarson; and niece, Roxann (Roarson) Kollbaum.
