Betty J. Harms

Betty J. Harms, 93, of Onawa, Iowa passed away Monday, December 8, 2025 at her residence.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 A.M. Friday, December 12, 2025 at the Goslar Funeral Home Chapel, Onawa, Iowa with Darren C. E. Goslar, officiating. A live stream of the service will be posted on the Goslar Funeral Home website with Betty’s obituary. Burial will follow in the Onawa Cemetery, Onawa, Iowa. The visitation will be held one hour prior to the service on Friday, December 12, 2025 at the Goslar Chapel. Arrangements are under the direction of Goslar Funeral Home and Monuments, Onawa, Iowa.

Betty Jane was born on March 20, 1932, in Onawa, Iowa, the daughter of Harry and Ellen (Johansen) Collett. She grew up in the Onawa community and attended Onawa High School.

Betty and Robert Harms were united into marriage in October of 1949. To this union three children were born, Beth, Robert and Beverly.

For many years, Betty helped on the farm and also worked as a Farm Insurance Adjuster. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, gardening, and playing bridge, but the most important part of her life was her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

She was a member of the Red Hat Society and had also previously been a member of the First Congregational Church in Onawa.

Survivors include two daughters, Beth Harms of Sioux City, Iowa and Beverly Harms of Onawa, Iowa; three grandchildren, Sarah McCasland of Wardsville, Missouri, Emily (Shaun Reiff) Harms of Jefferson, South Dakota, and Annie Harms of Onawa, Iowa; three great-granddaughters, Leighton, Rylee, and Eastyn McCasland; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Harms; son, Robert James Harms; parents, Harry and Ellen (Johansen) Collett; sisters, Mary Ping, Joanne Brenden, and Dorothy Bearce; brother, Don Collett; parents-in-law, Levi and Berniece (Dugdale) Harms; and son-in-law, Chris Jensen.
