Bertha Louise Bryan

Bertha Louise Bryan, 96, of Blencoe, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, July 15, 2026 at Pleasant View Care Center, Whiting, Iowa, after a brief illness.

A memorial graveside service will be held 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday, July 22, 2026 at Graceland Cemetery, Blencoe, Iowa, with Elder Donnie Bothwell, officiating. A recording of the service will be posted on the Goslar Funeral Home website with Bertha’s obituary. Arrangements are under the direction of Goslar Funeral Home and Monuments, Onawa, Iowa.

Bertha Louise was born November 29, 1929, in rural Little Sioux, Iowa, the daughter of George William and Leona Ellen (Bothwell) Powell. She graduated high school in Blencoe, Iowa with the class of 1947. After graduation, she attended business school in Omaha, Nebraska.

On September 24, 1950, she married Freddie J. Bryan of Blencoe, Iowa. To this union, three children were born.

Bertha worked twenty-two years for West Monona School District as a secretary/teacher’s aide. She loved playing cards, turkey bingo, gardening, and tending to her flowers. Granny B was a woman with a youthful spunkiness and sass. She had a contagious laugh, sharp sense of humor, and a deeply loving heart.

Survivors include her daughter, Cindy (Bill) Gantz of Onawa, Iowa; grandchildren, Heather Bryan of Whiting, Iowa, Melissa (Glenn) Koenigs of Onawa, Iowa, BJ (Justin) Richards of Onawa, Iowa, Patrick Bryan of Rosalie, Nebraska, and Kelli (Eric) Sherwood of Omaha, Nebraska; numerous great-grandchildren; niece, Stephanie (Dale) Hecht of Colorado Springs, Colorado; nephew, Kent (Jan) Powell of Atlantic, Iowa; along with many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Freddie J. Bryan; parents, George and Leona Powell; infant brother, George DeWayne Powell; brother, Johnnie Powell; and two sons, Michael Thomas Bryan and David George Bryan.
