Bernadine I. Hansen

Bernadine I. Hansen, 101, of Omaha, Nebraska, formerly of Moorhead, Iowa passed away Thursday, January 23, 2025 at Methodist Fremont Health in Fremont, Nebraska. 

A funeral service will be 10:30 A.M. Friday, January 31, 2025 at the Moorhead Christian Church, Moorhead, Iowa, with Pastor Chuck Snow, officiating. A recording of the service will be posted on the Goslar Funeral Home website with Bernadine’s obituary. Burial will follow in the Spring Valley Cemetery, Moorhead, Iowa. A visitation will be one hour prior to the service Friday, January 31, 2025 at the Moorhead Christian Church. Arrangements are under the direction of Goslar Funeral Home and Monuments, Onawa, Iowa.

Bernadine Ione was born September 29, 1923 in Moorhead, Iowa, the daughter of Elmer and Leone (Stolley) Shol. She attended country school and then graduated from Moorhead High School with the class of 1941. Bernadine furthered her education at a business school in Omaha. 

Bernadine Shol and Anton “Juhl” Hansen were united into marriage June 4, 1944 at the Moorhead Christian Church. The couple made their home in Moorhead where they raised their two children, Rodney and Rhonda. Bernadine was proud to have been living in “the house at the top of the hill” for over 75 years. The couple enjoyed traveling together in their 5th wheel and took the grandchildren on many vacations. They also enjoyed square dancing and attending all their grandchildren’s sporting events. Juhl passed away February 24, 2010 in Onawa, Iowa. 

Bernadine was a postmaster for many years in the Moorhead area. She enjoyed quilting, going to the casino, collecting stamps, and playing her bass guitar in the Country Gal’s Band. She was a member of the Moorhead Christian Church and the Christian Women’s Fellowship. 

Survivors include her grandchildren, Nichola “Niki” (Matt) Frerichs of Omaha, Nebraska, Jewel (Chad) Nickolisen of Omaha, Nebraska, Mindy (Jade) Nuzum of Omaha, Nebraska; seven great-grandchildren, Emma, Sydney, and Nickolas Frerichs, Chloe and Jackson Nickolisen, and Jada and Noah Nuzum; brother, Robert Shol of Moorhead, Iowa; sister-in-law, Colleen Shol of Moorhead, Iowa; and many other relatives and friends. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Juhl Hansen; son, Rodney Hansen; daughter, Rhonda (Marty) Cline; her parents, Elmer and Leone (Stolley) Shol; and siblings, Ronald Shol; Howard Shol, and Darlene (Deryle) Bowen. 

Memorials in Bernadine’s memory may be directed to the Moorhead Christian Church or the Moorhead Fire and Rescue.
